Aka alcohol.

Gone off my regular cider and quite fancy trying some other drinks. I like sweet (but not sickly sweet). Wine is ok but I'm incredibly picky so just don't buy it. I love bison vodka apple juice but it's bloody expensive!

Any suggestions? Sick of watching my dad drink a glass of wine like it's water and sitting their with my can of Pepsi Grin

Also peach Gin it's lovely

TripleLampshade · 11/06/2020 12:02

I too like sweet drinks.
Taboo & lemonade (showing my age)
Southern Comfort & coke
Archers peach schnapps on ice
Rose moscato (just discovered and I love it)
Liebfraumilch, Riesling, Asti Spumante
Fireball cinnamon whisky

postyourlunch · 11/06/2020 12:05

Nothing at the moment as I'm pregnant but I usually enjoy a nice, cold bottle of lager.

SausageCrush · 11/06/2020 12:07

Lyme Bay Winery (in the south of England) do a lovely selection of fruit wines. My favourite is either Strawberry or Cherry.

Shoxfordian · 11/06/2020 12:25

I like a good strong gin and tonic or gin and bitter lemon

LemonFanta123 · 11/06/2020 12:29

Pink gin & 7UP! Or the echo falls fruit wine (rose!) x

noodledoodler · 11/06/2020 12:29

Apple bourbon, like jim beam or jack daniels

Turkeydrumstick · 11/06/2020 12:31

Amaretto and Diet Coke with loads of ice or a pornstar martini- feels extra fancy making them at home!

Redwren · 11/06/2020 12:33

Malibu and coke (full sugar)

I love making mojitos

Amarula

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/06/2020 12:33

Try online The Drop Store for a bargain! I use them and save money. They have a good selection of all booze! (I am not affiliated to them I just think they are great)

Serenity45 · 11/06/2020 13:24

Depending on my mood (though not a gin drinker):

Vodka lime and lemonade / vodka and cranberry (Stoli or Belvedere vodka preferably but I can make do with any tbh)
Mojito
Prosecco
White wine with a splash of diet lemonade (means I'm not so fussed with the wine, wouldn't put lemonade in a 'nice' wine)
Pimms and lemonade (with mint/cucumber/strawberries can make as strong/weak as you like)

Lochinvar2020 · 11/06/2020 13:27

I'm really a beer drinker, but to fit the brief, Malibu and pineapple juice is lovely.

JustC · 11/06/2020 13:30

Red wine or gin and orange juice( my friends find that one weird) .

BarbaraofSeville · 11/06/2020 13:39

Gin and orange was the 'normal' way to drink it in the 1970/80s in the UK IIRC.

Sometimes in Lidl you can find a bitter orange fizzy pop that's really good with gin but in the absence of that gin with a 50/50 mix of tonic and orange soda is also really nice.

In Spain, a common drink is calimocho, which is cheap red wine and coke, and probably a different way of having tinto verano, which is the same cheap red wine mixed with gaseoso, which is very weak lemonade, similar to normal clear UK lemonade, but maybe how it would be if mixed 50/50 with soda water.

Firstinlastout · 11/06/2020 13:43

What exactly is Aperol?I keep seeing it about but it's quite expensive to just try it if I dont like it.Is there a particular flavour to it?I've heard of it being used with prosecco,so was thinking of that.I like prosecco but prefer something in it,usually I add fresh orange juice, but that can be a bit sickly sometimes.

Bluebell878275 · 11/06/2020 13:51

White wine and soda is my first choice generally. I do get in a pack of Desperados (tequila-based lager) now and again; it's quite strong so tend to just have a couple of bottles. Sometimes I go for a Spiced Rum mixed with Ginger Ale and a splash of lime cordial. That is gorgeous!

EnterNight · 11/06/2020 13:52

I'm not a drinker anymore, I think too many Snakebite and black and pints of bitter as a teen did it for me, but I have recently discovered Brothers Toffee Apple Cider and good christ it's bloody lovely.

I tend to grab a bottle on a hot day when I've been gardening.

Boopeedoop · 11/06/2020 13:57

Archers and orange juice or lemonade if you like sweet.
Amaretto and coke is fabulous.
Southern comfort and lemonade.
I'm actually tee total now but I used to drink like a fish!

PastramiNoRye · 11/06/2020 14:01

@astrabees You're my kind of drinker.

I'd add a good strong Margarita to your list, but those are some solid choices.

acatnamedfox · 11/06/2020 14:05

Crabbies Ginger Beer

acatnamedfox · 11/06/2020 14:09

I’ve been making sangria too, pretty low abv and cal content:

  • 250mls of red wine
  • 50mls of triple sec/Cointreau /anything orangy will do even plain OJ.
  • 250mls Diet lemonade
  • chopped apple
  • chopped orange

Make in morning, leave in fridge ready for evening.

Lots of ice wrks out about

LajesticVantrashell · 11/06/2020 14:12

I'll usually have a glass of prosecco when DH is doing bedtime (the night that I'm not) then a gin (currently on Tarquins with elderflower tonic) then a nice glass of white wine.

Occasionally a rose, occasionally a rum (Kracken) and coke.

getdownonit · 11/06/2020 14:18

@Firstinlastout Aperol is a sweet bitter orange flavour, but only the same % proof as wine, so I tend to have a slug of that with ginger ale or lemonade. Feels like an alcoholic long drink, but lower proof than a spirit.
I have tried it with Prosecco but that was quite a messy evening Smile

Reluctantbettlynch · 11/06/2020 14:44

You need to balance, if you don't want it to be too sweet you need either a sweet spirit or a sweet mixer not both - so sweet gin with tonic or soda, or less sweet gin with lemonade etc.
wine and lemonade may also work
whitley neill raspberry gin is awesome

BearBearBearBear · 11/06/2020 15:48

Slingsby rhubarb and ginger ale. Hands down my favourite drink forever.

Also like a New Zealand sauvvy B. Trust Malbec when it's cold.

Also those tiny stubby beers you can get if it's hot.
