To think Disney should give a full refund?

We had flights fo Florida booked for August, received an email yesterday saying our flights were cancelled. Great. Huge weight off our shoulders! My husband thinks Disney will only refund 70% of the ticket as we're cancelling with 2 months to go but surely if we can't get there because the UK government are advising not to travel and the fact that our flights been cancelled we should get a full refund!? H is thinking we can claim the other 30% back with our travel insurance but surely it's Disney's responsibility?

We cancelled around a month ago for August and received a full refund, deposit included.

Disney are being brilliant with refunds. We had ours back in our account the day we should have travelled after our flights were cancelled 6 days before. It was 100% refund too.

Ask disney

dancinfeet · 11/06/2020 08:12

Disney (Paris) are being rubbish with refunds. I know of someone who is struggling to get a refund for the hotel part of the trip, because Disney are insisting that the park will be open by august, even though the 2 week quarantine makes it impossible for the family to take the holiday. Another friend who was going to be there at the the same time in august got a full refund for the same Disney hotel.

Going by your post you haven’t contacted Disney yet. I think I’d do that before getting all snippy about them.

Wtfdidwedo · 11/06/2020 08:14

Disney have been doing full refunds or rearranging trips until the end of next year for everyone I know. Have you called them?

whichteaareyou · 11/06/2020 08:15

Reassuring posts thank you! We emailed them yesterday but I'm panicking in the meantime!

I got a full refund from Disneyland Paris

BashStreetKid · 11/06/2020 08:19

If you can get any shortfall back from your travel insurance, does it matter who pays?

Lovetoridemybicycle · 11/06/2020 08:21

I had tickets through attraction tickets, if that's who you mean They reduced their cancellation fee so got 80% back. The rest I got from insurance minus excess, so lost £200 out of £3000. I can deal with that.
Depends on your insurance t&c though. Mine included tickets.
Now Virgin we are 70 days into waiting for for the money since refund agreed

I can never understand why posters make assumptions, panic and then ask MN users to decide if unreasonable when they have no idea yet what the organisation are going to do.

Seriously!

I had to cancel a Disney trip in April. They were brilliant.

I got through on the phone without a wait, received a full refund in two days and even got to keep the cashback!

Good luck in getting your money back. I had to make a credit card claim to get my flight money back from Tui.

worriedmama1980 · 11/06/2020 09:21

If you booked flights separately, why would it be Disney's responsibility? If they're open and offering a service it's not their fault- if you we're getting there by car driving from Boston, say, and there was a huge motorway pile up that made you miss the first day of your trip, would you expect a refund because it wasn't your fault?

It sounds like you'll get a refund which is great but I've been a bit mystified by the number of things people are expecting refunds for because it wasn't their fault things got cancelled. Here you seem to be resenting the idea your insurance would pay out not Disney, which is just a bit baffling.

Thanks so much to all the helpful replies. I have contacted the company but I was looking for other people's experiences as I'm
Obviously worried about loosing a lot of money. I don't mind who pays out as long as we get our money back. @worriedmama1980 because we can't get to Florida therefore not able to use the ticket so should get a full refund.
