How much extra cleaning are you doing at home and at work?

Cleaning all the door handles at home with a bleach solution has become part of our routine. Washing the downstairs floors now a couple of times a week rather than every day. Washing machine is on every day with scrubs rather than a few times a week so I tend to make it up to a full load with towels etc.

Still doing a deep clean every day at work ( healthcare) which we have down to a fine art now Grin but a few grumbles starting to emerge. DH works in manufacturing and above cleaning chairs before and after breaks, has no ‘extra’ cleaning to think about.
If you’re out at work or just heading back, how much cleaning are you expected to do above and beyond your ‘normal’ work?

None.

The only extra cleaning we're doing is hands.

MargotB7 · 09/06/2020 19:52

Just hands

Tropical2 · 09/06/2020 19:53

None, we're not going out and nobody is allowed to come inside so no need to do any extra!

Spacepocket · 09/06/2020 19:58

I am sick of the smell of bleach!

None

Spacepocket · 09/06/2020 20:07

Even in workplaces?

Just hands, we don’t allow anyone in the house.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/06/2020 20:12

At home- just the extra cleaning caused by having DC at home all day rather than school.

DH at work... Nothing. The cleaners do the cleaning like before. Some buildings you need to wash your hands before entering and tbeyve installed sinks outside for that purpose (where food is served mainly.)

dementedpixie · 09/06/2020 20:12

I haven't cleaned any more than usual. I've not cleaned door handles at all. I'm using sanitiser if out and about

spanieleyes · 09/06/2020 20:14

Nothing much different at home.
At work ( I teach) , hand gel on arrival, hand gel every change of place, disinfecting toilets, sinks, taps and door handles after every bubble visit to the toilets ( that's eight times a day), wiping down tables at break, before and after lunch and at afternoon break, disinfecting play equipment daily-the cleaners do the rest!

Camomila · 09/06/2020 20:23

DH is working from home and I'm on mat leave, the only extra cleaning we are doing is extra hand washing and general cleaning from being home more.

chickedeee · 09/06/2020 20:28

At home I continue to clean as normal, no bleaching hands/door handles etc.

Washing hands if I go out, when I get home.

Proportionate in my opinion.

TulipsandDa1s1es · 09/06/2020 20:29

None, just hands.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 09/06/2020 20:30

Just hands and if dont go anywhere all day I dont even do that excessively

Spacepocket · 09/06/2020 20:32

I got into the habit of doing the door handles very early on as teen DSS couldn’t be relied on with handwashjng. It’s a habit that’s stuck.

Nothing extra at home.
A ridiculous amount more at work.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/06/2020 20:34

The only extra thing is a few hand towels washed and dried everyday but that's from being home more with the DC and they're really quite damp by the end day from use.

Sexnotgender · 09/06/2020 20:35

None, my house is a fucking shambles trying to work full time whilst looking after a teething toddler.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/06/2020 20:36

Oh and wiping down the laptop or tablet after the dc have used them - but that's because they seem to ooze grime on the screen and keyboard 🤮

EatDessertFirst · 09/06/2020 20:37

Extra hand washing is the only addition. Spent time teaching the DC to clean the house and use the washing machine though. Good life lessons I think!

raspberryk · 09/06/2020 20:40

None, probably less cleaning. I'm washing dd uniform daily now instead of trying to make the odd item last 2 days. We're wearing less clothes though as ds not as dirty so he's wearing things twice. Dp isn't having a clean shirt and trousers daily plus an evening change. I'm not changing in and out of dog walking and respectable clothes. So it probably equates to less washing overall.

Spacepocket · 09/06/2020 20:48

@EatDessertFirst yep that’s definitely been a bonus!

at home cleaning door handles ,switches ,controllers etc everyday day ,washing floors a couple of times a week, at work trying to clean keypads ,till ,checkout belt as often as I can as we don't seem to have stuff to do it ,have taken my own stuff in to do it but got wrong, no extra cleaning stuff to clean tables in staff area since the lockdown started, so taking lunch in a tubberware and wiping the table space down with my own wipes

Toddlerteaplease · 09/06/2020 20:51

None.
Very little extra at work. I'm a nurse on a clean ward.

vanillandhoney · 09/06/2020 20:53

Nothing extra at home as it's only DH and I in the house.

I work as a dog walker so I now have to supply my own leads which I didn't before, and carry sanitiser to use before and after leaving a clients home. I don't wear gloves as with picking up poo etc. it's not hygienic or practical. I also don't wear a mask as I have dogs that are old and going deaf/blind so they need to be able to hear me clearly. I also can't take dogs in my car anymore unless it gets a full clean in between clients. Otherwise things are the same as always Smile
