Would you vet this?

Cat has come back with this paw injury.
No idea what she could have possibly done.
No other injuries that I can see and appears completely unbothered by it.

Would you take her to the vet or just let it heal naturally?

If it was the dog I’d savlon it and observe but I don’t know if Savlon is cat safe as they are more sensitive than dogs and she won’t not lick it just because I told her not to like the dog would.

Can you trim the hair back a bit to get a better look? If she's using the paw and it's stopped bleeding I probably wouldn't rush to the vet but keep an eye on it.

Paw injuries in my experience are prone to infection so I'd be inclined to at least call the vet for advice - you may be able to email them the pictures so they can advise

Our vet is doing video consultations to assess which patients need to be seen. Is that an option?

I really don’t know if I’d be able to trim.
When I initially tried to get a look she ran off, I managed to get the pictures by pretending I wasn’t trying to look at it and giving her a stroke and putting the camera on zoom.

I have very slowly and gently tried to lift her paw to get a closer look but she went to bite me.

I don’t think that’s due to pain mind, she has always hated her feet/legs being touched

I would get that seen by the vet even if over zoom (our zoom consultation for our cats wound actually was fine) as these can turn nasty quickly.

Can I savlon it?
Or is it toxic for cats?
Anyone know?

I don’t want to take her down to the vet really as she’ll be very stressed and although if needed I can do a video consultation she’s pretty wiggly and will bite me if I’m faffing about trying to show the vet her paw 😖

Our cat nearly died after what the vet thought must have been a bite on his paw - it was so small we hadn’t even noticed it but he was evidently very unwell. It was infected, paw was swollen. The vet said even another 12 hours without antibiotics and he’d have been a goner, with septicaemia.

No don't put savlon on it. You could gently wash it with warm salty water (if cat will let you) and see what it looks like tomorrow.

You shouldn't use savlon on dogs in case they lick it. You can get something called Vetzyme powder from amazon or Pets at Home which is an antibacterial powder. Think that's for dogs and cats.

In the mean time I would make up a salt water solution and dunk the paw/try to clean it with kitchen roll dunked in the solution. I'd keep him/her inside for a few days and probably dunk it morning and night and check progress. If you can have a bit of a fiddle with the paw and see whether it looks superficial that would be even better. If it's deep that's when I would be more inclined to go to the vets.

Equally, if you can get vetzyme powder sprinkle some of that on a few times a day. It's great stuff. About £4 a pot.

Don't use savlon or alcohol etc on cat wounds. Saline solution should be fine, or povidone iodine. In my experience, the vet will probably tell you to clean the wound, keep an eye on it and bring the cat in if it gets worse.
