Really freaked out by GP

I went to my GP about a load of red pinprick sized dots that have appeared on my chest/ legs. She said that she is sending a photo of the dots to the dermatology clinic. I asked her if she knew what was causing it and she said she had one idea but couldn’t be 100% sure. I asked what her idea was and she replied let’s wait to hear back from the clinic.
Her reply is making me more concerned. If it was something of nothing why would she not just tell me her suspicion? AIBU to think she should have told me her thoughts when I asked?

Perhaps she had no clue but didn’t want to admit that?!

Inkpaperstars · 09/06/2020 17:52

I think she would have ordered blood tests of she suspected that yes.

stickerqueen · 09/06/2020 17:52

i know how you feeling I'm also freaking out after taking ds 2 to the gp. a lump around 2cm appeared in his neck over the weekend so took him to the gp and they referred him to the hospital said we should get a call within 7 days. gp never give any idea what we dealing with and said to wait for the hospital to call.
I'm more worried about the lump now than i was before going gp

I think that is very possible!

Happymum12345 · 09/06/2020 17:56

I have severe health anxiety & would have begged them to tell me what they were thinking. You need to phone up & ask again or go and see another dr if you can’t wait a week. However, I’m sure that as it been sent to a dermatologist, I wouldn’t be too concerned unless it was skin cancer, which clearly this isn’t. All the best.

Marpan · 09/06/2020 17:56

If you could afford it send your pic to an online consultant dermatologist somewhere like just answer. It’s a great resource.

The private derms are only doing telephone or online they would be 10x the price of this.

If it sets ur mind at ease it would be totally worth it.

thegcatsmother · 09/06/2020 18:00

@mumwon

as pp said MIGHT be low platelets (ITP) women can get chronic ITP as they get older sometimes after infection - & nose bleeds maybe linked (but might not be) what's your bp like? Chronic ITP doesn't usually interfere with every day life (what are your periods like op out of interest? & roughly how old are you?) Let me put it like this -the person I know who has this has had successful open heart surgery (had to take medication but had no other issue- sailed thru it - ) BUT it could be nothing - your gp is being careful - have you had blood test?
I've had ITP for 25 years and have petechiae on my feet and legs, and my mouth and nose bleeds when my platelet count drops.

I have no meds for it and it only interferes in everyday life if you get tired, and tonic water is out, as is too much alcohol as it depresses platelets.

olympicsrock · 09/06/2020 18:02

Don’t panic! She’s just taking advantage of the quick photo referral systeM that seem offers. You are getting an expert opinion

I have just done this thank you. It was £35 but with a reply in 24 hours it will be worth every penny.

Op is it like this

Really freaked out by GP
CrystalTipped · 09/06/2020 18:20

Interesting... I get these on my arms but whenever I see one I just assume I've been bitten by something!

lilgreen · 09/06/2020 18:25

If she suspected Leukaemia you’d be getting blood tests and a referral. Dermatology suggests it’s not that. I know what you mean op. You read so much into gp chat when you’re worried. Hope it’s straight forward .

BlueChewRoy · 09/06/2020 18:27

@aFaintSeashellAroma

Op is it like this
A bit but they are smaller and there is a lot more of them.

I think the GP is not thinking it is anything harmless or she would have told me and the reason she isn’t telling me is because she suspects one of the more harmful causes. (Leukemia). I accept that could be my imagination running wild.

Not likely, if she thought something serious you would be having bloods and referred to oncology for investigation and biopsy.

Think about what dermatologists do - she clearly thinks it's a skin condition but isn't qualified enough to share her thoughts. It's a little silly on the GPs part, but she probably didn't realise you'd worry like this.....

Stay calm.

ClientQ · 09/06/2020 19:03

They don't mess about if they think it's leukaemia. I had bloods done one day, was off out for tea at about 7pm and got a call from the GP sending me to haematology that evening
The bloods were seen, they rang the GP who rang me and next thing I'm in the Macmillan centre all within about 10hrs. It wasn't leukaemia but I did need urgent treatment and saw a consultant that evening

EmpressSuiko · 09/06/2020 19:06

If she thought leukaemia she would have booked you in for bloods, I get terrible bruising all over my legs and have had to have bloods tests to rule out anything serious causing it.

Hopefully you’ll get some answers soon but don’t panic of let your mind run wild, if it was serious then checking bloods is usually the first port of call.

SteeperThanHell · 09/06/2020 19:12

My husband has leukaemia - they wouldn't make you wait a week for a Dermatologist if that is what they suspected.

JinglingHellsBells · 09/06/2020 19:30

sorry OP but I think she sounds crap. It's patronising to be so secretive and not treat you as an adult.

A good dr would have said it might be AB or C but she needed an expert opinion.

Pretty sure they are not cherry angiomas- they are pink head or smaller but definitely have a look to them and they are not ALL over - there are spaces between them. I have some on my torso and once lockdown is over and having them lasered off ( had some done .)

Rubbish GP- sorry- needs to treat you as an equal not a child.

TatianaBis · 09/06/2020 19:33

No GP is quite right not to throw random possibility to patient without getting it checked by specialist.

blueglassandfreesias · 09/06/2020 19:44

They won't be expecting Leukaemia, my mum had a blood test then the next day was sent to hospital for emergency treatment.

Geekgirlmum · 09/06/2020 19:52

I have idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and these sound like petechiae (pinprick bleeding under the skin). Lots of things can cause it. It might be an idea to have a blood test and check platelet count. ITP is controllable but depending on the platelet count might need treatment.

pinktaxi · 09/06/2020 20:38

If she thought it was leukaemia she would do a blood test. It's the first thing she would do. A dermatologist would not diagnose leukaemia or a blood disorder of any kind. Only a blood test will.

lucyintheskywithcz · 09/06/2020 21:25

I agree she would have done bloods if she thought it was leukaemia

DeborahAlisonphillipa · 09/06/2020 22:53

@BlueChewRoy any update OP? I have these too.
