Is mocking intelligence prejudice?

I have seen so many supposedly funny memes lately mocking people's intelligence and hear so many put downs shamelessly pointing out if someone is stupid.

I get that it's only to make themselves feel more superior but people can't help what level of intelligence they are born with and I cringe sometimes at how people get away with the belittling of people's minds.

AIBU to think this lack of respect for less intelligent people who sometimes struggle intellectually must be horrible for them and yet it seems to be socially acceptable to disgrace someone for a disadvantage they can't help?

Is it their intellectual ability that's being mocked? I agree that would be wrong.
If it's ignorance then ....

Agreed.

In order to spare feelings, we should only mock people who are far too stupid to realise they're being mocked.

I thought you meant mocking intelligent people for being brainy!

I don't know about prejudice, but it's not very nice and I wouldn't think well of anyone who did it.

It really depends though doesn't it? I mock Donald Trump for being a bit thick because the alternative is, he is evil and that frightens me - or more that the people who agree with him are.
