She's had it for 2 days now, her head is tilted to one side. She says it hurts and I've given her calpol, she has no fever or any other symptoms, just a twisted neck. I don't know if I should book an appointment? She just woke up last this one morning.

What? How old is she? Her head is tilted to one side? I would make an appointment yes.

pinkazing · 08/06/2020 16:57

How old is she? Please get her checked out

MitziK · 08/06/2020 16:57

Of course you should take her to get checked out. It's a neck injury/issue that is causing her pain.

Elouera · 08/06/2020 17:00

Its called a tortacollis and is common from sleeping wrong in bed. A hot water bottle, light stretching and massage can help. Sometimes a small dose of diazepam is prescribed the relax the muscles in adults, but if basic things don't relieve it, speak to your GP. It usually goes within a few days.

TheGoldenNugget · 08/06/2020 18:26

@Elouera yes I think that's what it is. I rang the GP and got a consultation over the phone. He prescribed a gel to massage on her neck and ibuprofen, will try that and see how it goes. Thanks

I did this a couple of times as a child, bloody painful. My mother gave me pain relief and a light massage, was better within a few days.

Ernieshere · 08/06/2020 18:40

At the very least, a Physio should be able to talk to you on the phone, if you ask your G.P to refer you.

Or go to a walk in centre if they are open at the minute, ours is open until 22.00 p.m.

TheGoldenNugget · 08/06/2020 18:45

@MouthBreathingRage yeah that's what I've been doing since Saturday, massaging her neck and thought it would go away after a few days but it's still the same. They've prescribed me algesal cream. Hopefully it will work.

When I had similar symptoms it was diagnosed as a spasm in my neck - it was incredibly painful. The GP put a cold spray on it and then he and a nurse repositioned my head so it was straight and fitted a collar to keep it that way. I was also prescribed anti inflammatories until it settled. I was also given advice about altering my sleep position. I would definitely seek medical advice.

I had a wry neck as a kid, happened a couple of times, just had to do exercises. I feel for her. It was very uncomfortable

GlittercheeksOakleaf · 08/06/2020 21:28

Dd was given a very small dose of diazepam when she had this. We gave her it for a couple of days and was back to normal movement really quickly. If the gel doesn't work consider asking for some.

Osirus · 09/06/2020 00:37

This happened to me as a child and I remember it vividly. It was so painful; I had to have a day off school.

Disappeared in a few days.
