To be horrified by the sudden interest in BLM

Why are there so many threads by possibly white women asking for guidance on how not to be a racist? I am a white woman and have been incorporating anti racism into my job for three decades now. My job is teaching and writing. Is this really news , how the fuck is this so?

I wonder what things would be like if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic.

A lot of people now 'protesting' and indulging in the cause out of boredom. Don't get me wrong plenty were there for the right reasons but also plenty turning up because the pubs and the gyms are shut and they're desperate to get out the house.

No, we should not just stay out of it. This is important to everyone. BLM needs all the support it can get right now in order to get closer to its aims. Anti-racism could do with your help imstillbreathingbarely.

But not everyone can or will get involved and that's their choice and that's ok. What I am finding disgusting at the moment is the concerted effort of some people to miss what has happened to people and what is happening now.

Thank you @DioneTheDiabolist. Yes I will carry on supporting BLM then. I believe any kind of natijustice needs to be called out. I just wouldn't want to tread on any toes if the black community don't want us there?

Am definitely not a bandwagom jumper type at all. My intentions are good.

@dione what would be the best thing to do in your opinion. I always considered myself not racist, have white parents along with mixed race family members, I saw a post (either MN or possibly twitter) saying call out racism rather than just think dickhead and delete, so I have started doing this. I'm now getting called loonie leftie and being told I'm anti British etc and now I'm worrying that I'm doing more harm than good

IMO the best thing we can do is use our voices, use our bodies, use our intelligence, use our ears, use our privilege, use our support, use every method we can to get the message through that Black Lives Matter, are necessary and really important.
