Biscoff Spread Argument

Ridiculous argument in our house today. AIBU to think husband is a bit of a twat?

He has been hoarding a jar of Biscoff spread, which I had been resisting eating. Yesterday he went out mountain biking, getting home around 3pm. I got very bored and hungry and rather than making a healthy lunch I ate half a jar of Biscoff spread. We have a five month old baby and I am finding lockdown a bit tough, she's lovely but her chat is rubbish and I was just bored and I bloody love Biscoff spread.

Came down this morning and he'd left the jar on the stairs without saying anything. Then said I should be ashamed of myself and I have to promise never to do this again. I did feel slightly shamed for eating half a jar of Biscoff, especially as I'm struggling with post pregnancy weight loss but also aware shit happens. Dug a little deeper and his beef is that it was his jar, that's why I should be ashamed. I've said I'll replace it, obviously. I'm a bit stupid for eating it but is he a bit of a twat for reacting that way? We were meant to be having today as a family and I honestly can't stand the sight of him.

You say he was hoarding it? That’s a strange choice of words. By hoarding, do you mean he was saving it for himself because you regularly eat stuff that is meant to be shared. I wouldn’t have an issue with you, even if you’d eaten the full jar, but if he usually ends up going without because you regularly help yourself, that’s different. Be honest, do you usually help yourself, without leaving enough? I also hope you didn’t eat it out of the jar with a spoon? 🤢

I’m glad he has apologised OP. I hope he has redeemed himself. I would hate this to happen in my house, particularly post partum - we had serious levels of munchies after DS was born and nothing was off limits. And that was pre-lockdown.

He's obviously an amateur at hiding his treat stash! If it's in the kitchen it's fair game!

I hide my chocolate in the vegetable drawer of the fridge. None of my children go there.

I would be so angry if my dh tried to shame me for eating something like this. I agree, when you have saved something it's annoying for someone else to eat it. But you didn't eat it all. And to pa leave it on the stairs!
It's dead easy to make btw. I use this recipe. The last time I didn't have quite enough coconut oil so used veg oil, but I think it would be better with just the coconut. You don't need to crush the biscuits either, they melt when you heat them with the water. www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2017/10/homemade-cookie-butter-recipe.html

You have a five month old baby - he should be bringing you the jar and a spoon.

How exactly did you ONLY eat half a jar???
Asking for a friend.
