Tesco delivery - help

Happierlife · 07/06/2020 09:55

Hello, sorry i know it is not AIBU but i was meant to cancel a tesco slot for today yesterday but forgot. My basket only had tea bags which is going to cost me £16.00. Does anyone know what would happen if i didn't open the door when the delivery came?
Thanks.

@Fridaysgirl

Yes we have all made mistakes but to even think about not opening the door to the delivery woman/man who has driven to your house reveals the OP's true colours. And for what it's worth I haven't been able to get a slot for weeks despite setting an alarm several times through the night to check the website.
Sorry you haven't been able to get a slot but please stop being horrible to me. There are more slots open in my area now and they aren't being snapped up either so don't think anyone lost a slot due to me.

I never said i would not open the door but was asking what would happen.

@Fridaysgirl

No, as I have said we all make mistakes so if what she suggests is true then that is clearly a reasonable oversight.

To not open the door once the delivery arrives. There is absolutely no excuse for that. Most reasonable people would either think to phone customers services themselves or take it on the chin.

I did call customer service and when i choose the cancel delivery option, it said that you can only cancel online due to how many calls they get. I called again and tried a different option and managed to talk to someone. I will ignore you from now.

@Pipandmum

Glad it's sorted and sorry for your loss. I've often started ordering but forget to check out (therefore losing the slot). Plenty of slots available these last two or three weeks here.
Thanks.

But she didn’t actually do this, she asked what would happen if she did. It wasn’t the world’s best idea, but asking for advice about ideas that aren’t great is not a crime and it doesn’t make you a bad person.

I’ve just had a look at your posting history on AS and it looks like you’re very much in the habit of posting unkind and judgmental things, so hopefully OP isn’t taking you to heart when she’s dealing with a bereavement.

You have to open the door. You can hand back the tea bags and only pay the delivery and minimum basket charge. They spent the money delivering it so that is fair.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 07/06/2020 11:52

For Christ’s sake, she accidentally ordered a box of teabags - she didn’t break up a marriage. No wonder people think Mumsnet is full of loons.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 07/06/2020 11:55

Eh? Why would she give back the teabags?

SteveTheSpiderPlantKiller · 07/06/2020 12:00

sorry you are having a tough time OP.

You would think someone at Tesco would check that an order for just tea bags is valid. A quick phone call and it could have been cancelled and nit wasted anyones time.

PumpkinP · 07/06/2020 12:10

I don’t think it’s Tesco’s job to call people to check if their orders are correct! Shock how can tescos be blamed for that [hmm

Anyway op mistakes happen and I do think some of these comments are really unnecessary. If you call them and explain I’m sure they will cancel.

SteveTheSpiderPlantKiller · 07/06/2020 12:20

I would usually agree but an order just for tea bags must stand out as an obvious mistake. It probably doesn't happen very often so a brief phone call and its all cleared up. Excellent customer service.

They manage to call me if I use the wrong bank card and they can't take payment, which I have done more often than I care to admit.

PumpkinP · 07/06/2020 12:35

Well if they can’t put your payment through then they are not going to give you your shopping are they Hmm

I think it probably does happen a lot actually as my sister had to same issue and only ordered 3 bottles of vodka but forgot to amend it before it came. People put random items in there basket to keep the slot with the intention of going back to Amend it closer to the date, so I can imagine that some people do forget but It’s your job to check your order is correct not Tesco’s!

SteveTheSpiderPlantKiller · 07/06/2020 12:45

I'm not saying its their job but it would be good customer service if they did check the very random things like one box of tea bags. Sometimes going above and beyond for your customers is nice.

I'm not suggesting that Tesco make it mandatory or anything, just that it would be nice of them of they did check obvious things like that.

OldEvilOwl · 07/06/2020 13:11

You can't give anything back! Even subs you don't want due to Covid 19. That's the case with Asda anyway, I'm assuming Tesco is the same

MereDintofPandiculation · 07/06/2020 13:14

They wouldn't manage to run a competitive delivery service at all if they had people involved in the process with enough time to stop and think "is that a mistake?" The only time the order will be seen by a person is during picking or during delivery - both people will be on low wages and rushed off their feet.

Though they could do the alternative model of no delivery at all if it's under £40

WeAllHaveWings · 07/06/2020 13:35

Tesco take back subs. They keep them separate and ask if suitable and only give you them if you want them. This weekend we were subbed charcoal and got firelighters instead. Not much use without charcoal!

PumpkinP · 07/06/2020 14:40

Yep you can give subs back with Tesco’s as they always ask me to make sure the subs are ok.

OldEvilOwl · 07/06/2020 16:58

I stand corrected! With Asda they give them to you anyway, and if you think it's unsuitable then you can get a refund on it
