Contraception / migraines

I suffer from migraines, I've noticed that they are always before I come on my period.

I've always been told I can't have certain contraception because of that however the reason people get migraines before their period is because of an oestrogen dip, so AIBU in thinking that the contraceptions I've been told I can't have could possibly in fact stop my migraines?

It’s because oestrogen based contraception increases your risk of stroke and you are already higher risk due to having migraines. So maybe, but safer for you not to have it.

Long term chronic migraine sufferer. Menstrual ones in my experience are the hardest to treat. There is a triptan that you can take prophilactically that’s licensed for menstrual migraines. Maybe ask your gp.

Hi long term migraine sufferer here!

I also get migraines at specific times in my cycle (as well as when I do anything different in my daily life.)
I'm on the Progesterone only pill which has stopped all of my periods. It has definitely helped to eliminate some of my migraines.
