To wonder what’s going to happen on the tube with face covering and hot weather

Just that really. Usually at this time of year we are being warned to carry water with us, not wear hot clothes etc.
Now it’s mandatory to wear a face covering - which precludes the drinking of water and obviously makes you even hotter.
Not sure there’s really a solution but wonder how this will evolve.

'In summer, temperatures on parts of the London Underground can become very uncomfortable due to its deep and poorly ventilated tube tunnels: temperatures as high as 47°C (116 °F) were reported in the 2006 European heat wave.[1] Posters may be observed on the Underground network advising that passengers carry a bottle of water to help keep cool.[2]'

Wiki.

The answer is. It gets fucking boiling. HTH.

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 05/06/2020 18:26

According to google tube can get as hot as 47 during a heatwave.

Pass out probably..
I already feel overheated and dizzy on packed tube trains without a face covering .
Should be fun..

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 05/06/2020 18:28

Am thinking quite a lot of people answering this don’t regularly travel on London Underground in the summer!

Correct. I avoid it whenever possible.

ShinyFootball · 05/06/2020 18:28

Waiting for posts saying that people in other countries can easily stand squashed in pressed against other people, standing, with little air movement, for 40 mins plus, while wearing burquas, in temps of 30 + and even 40+, all over the world, and why are brits so feeble.... Hmm

Fluffybutter · 05/06/2020 18:28

@TheFencePainter

How hot does the tube get fgsConfused
I’m assuming you’ve never travelled on the tube in the summer. It’s hotter than Satan’s arsehole after a vindaloo
OhamIreally · 05/06/2020 18:28

@TheFencePainter try getting on the Victoria line at 6 pm on a summer's day. You know how when you open the oven door and a blast of hot air hits you in the face? That.

ShinyFootball · 05/06/2020 18:29

Hey yeah good description Pham!

ShinyFootball · 05/06/2020 18:29

Oham sorry autocorrect!

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 05/06/2020 18:31

Also for those saying about the water - they literally announce it every two seconds and have warnings all over stations to carry water with you.

But think the idea about a long straw is a great one!

OP posts:
TheFencePainter · 05/06/2020 18:32

Get a longer straw then. You can easily slide it under the mask.
Or wear an ice pack. Costume wearers often have them.

That was reported in 2006. I remember the 2006 heatwave. It was quite something

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 05/06/2020 18:32

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace lucky you! Sadly a lot of London’s workers aren’t so lucky and don’t have any choice.

I take that😂😂😂

HappyHammy · 05/06/2020 18:39

How about using a handheld fan

PhoneLock · 05/06/2020 18:45

@PhoneLock don’t they have super air conditioned trains though?

Actually, you've got me there. Yes, they are.

titchy · 05/06/2020 18:51

I want to know what you're supposed to do if you sneeze... I have chronic hay fever and regularly fill several tissues with snot before I've got to work.

ShinyFootball · 05/06/2020 18:53

If you're on the tube with snot running out the bottom of your mask you're not going to be popular!!!

titchy · 05/06/2020 18:54

I know! But what else can hay fever sufferers do if we can't remove our masks

NotGenerationAlpha · 05/06/2020 18:55

My parents live in Hong Kong. Hong Kong underground has air conditioning and the platforms have glass doors to keep the air con inside. It’s a lot cooler than London! I have been to Singapore and it’s similar. Both places you can walk to many places in air con malls and over bridges.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 05/06/2020 18:58

lucky you! Sadly a lot of London’s workers aren’t so lucky and don’t have any choice.

@amillionnamechangeslater000

I know and I do feel for anyone who has to get on the Tube on a regular basis. For me, it's not a convenient way to get around but I know it's the only way for lots of you Blush

TheFencePainter · 05/06/2020 19:01

@titchy sorry about laughing at running snot, but...😂
Lots of people with hayfever are reporting much less symptoms when wearing masks so even though that some countries now relaxed restrictions on wearing the mask outside, they still keep them and wear them all the time.

Keep spares and just change whenever you need to. Or develop nose tamponsGrin

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 05/06/2020 19:07

Wow this thread has turned into invention corner - I will he patenting nose tampons Grin

CaffiSaliMali · 05/06/2020 19:55

I've fainted on the tube before and come close to on many more occasions. I am prone to fainting due to a medical condition, but even so - it gets hideously hot on the tube, especially the Central Line.

Fortunately I am expected to work from home for the foreseeable and won't be back on the tube for some time. As an asthmatic I am exempt from wearing a mask, but I fear people on public transport may not react kindly to those of us who are unable to wear masks. Have seen lots of comments online saying those who are exempt from wearing masks (the elderly, disabled, those with respiratory conditions/breathing difficulties, the elderly and very young children) shouldn't be allowed on public transport at all!

JassyRadlett · 05/06/2020 19:57

How hot does the tube get fgs

The Tube gets fucking hot.

My qualifications for opining: I grew up in Australia and used to get unairconditioned buses to work in the height of a Queensland summer. I know hot.
