I feel truly sick at the world we live in today. I don’t know what the answer is. The police are wrong to act with brutality, the protesters are wrong to act with violence, to loot and destroy property. This is not positive.

[Please note, title edited as it originally stated that the man had died]*

It's an acronym being used in America that's now being used by some protesters here - it means all cops are bastards.

It's not now being used hear. It's been used in the U.K. for decades.

@thenamesarealltaken

She (or he) is trying to see a situation from
Both Sides

Whilst I don’t agree , I also don’t agree with piling on someone who might be seeing it from an alternative angle
To be clear I don’t agree , in my view it’s indefensible

But as always we have to try to not be aggressive to people with different views

Even if we find them abhorrent

That’s the whole reason we are in such a mess

I have never seen that acronym before

@AnyFucker - it's quite the popular knuckle tattoo where I grew up.

Ah. Ok. Might be a regional thing because I wasn't raised in the lap of luxury either. Smile

I agree with Thisisworse. We have to be able to try and understand the other point of view, without being accused of defending it.

I'm aware that beyond the screen of that film, something else was happening. The officers were 'holding the line' and proceeding toward something that had their attention.

The guy that pushed the man then tried to stop and see to him was, I think, warned off by another cop- better to let the medics go to him. Usually if someone has assaulted someone else they wouldn't be allowed to then assist them- it would cause confusion in a subsequent investigation.

Why did the medics appear to be in army uniform?

It's normal to talk about something one doesn't fully understand from various angles. It's not excusing it or even agreeing with it.

For many of us, it's just unimaginable what's happening in the US. The mentality of people just having guns, the police behaviour, all that things are something many of us simply don't comprehend. So by trying to discuss it from different angles is actually good.

Then we have varied opinions and can create a realistic and understandable picture. And then we can start to understand what is going on in there

Probably @AnyFucker - seems to have been prevalent in NW England. Wink

@Anyfucker

It was very popular with skinheads in the 80s.

They might have been National Guard (US version of the TA I think).

@LakieLady yes I agree, it’s certainly improved.

I don't believe all cops are bastards, but if we descend to whataboutery regarding tackling terrorists unarmed, then so did a murderer on day release for killing a disabled girl.
Sometimes good people do bad things and awful people do great things. It doesn't fundamentally change who they are as a person.

I also want to know why the ambulance didn’t give first aid and cpr to george floyd at the scene. From a news report I saw they drove away, parked round the corner and called for assistance from the fire brigade Confused. There was a delay in treating him because the coppers at the scene denied knowing where George had gone when the fire engine turned up...

On a related note, any officer in the UK who carries a gun is extensively trained in first aid and resuscitation. They are often sent if they are closer than an ambulance.

Firefighters are trained in emergency first aid too - but a paramedic would have been the best option.

So does the US have ambulances that don’t carry paramedics? That would be my conclusion, and thinking about it not surprised as ambulances driven by non qualified staff will be cheaper. Especially if it’s a black man judged likely to not have medical insurance Hmm

Fire engines are usually the first to get to an emergency scene (so my niece the firefighter says - maybe people get out of the way after for a huge fire twice growling through traffic)

He fractured his skull and can't walk, but Trump still thinks he's an ANTIFA provocateur.
