AIBU?

Would you send your dc back to school in September if there was no social distancing?

I worry about how much longer dc are going to be expected to learn at home considering a lot of them aren't. However, if they're going to have to socially distance I can't really see a way forward.
YABU = No I wouldn't send them without social distancing
YANBU = Yes I would

Absolutely. I'll send them back the second their right to an education is reinstated, but I would prefer that they are not asked to socially distanced.

Without a shadow of doubt

In fact - I would be actively happy about it

Yes absolutely 100%! My 5 year old (Reception) went back this week and he is so happy. There is no social distancing within his bubble thank goodness. A bit of normality is lovely. Just need the other two back! They are very jealous of him particularly as he just gets to play all day!

Even if it turns out to be seasonal?

Yep. The risk to children in regards to Corona is minimal, the reality of their mental well-being being damaged long term is high.

I will protect others by not letting them mix with vulnerable groups

Yes, mine would gladly go back tomorrow if they could. DC4 in yr6 was distraught that his school hasn’t got room for his year to go back.

I would for the benefit of my children, but that doesn't mean I think it is the right thing for society more widely. I think we need to watch carefully how reopening affects infection rate and if it goes any higher I would be v against reopening, even though I feel my children really need to go back.

Yes but i would like some other changes- specifically removing assembly and using that time to allow more handwashing or gel dispensers on entering classroom. (This would require some infrastructure investment from a central fund)
A change in government guidance which places pressure on children to attend when sick to one where its unacceptable to send sick children to school.
I also have a vague idea tha PE, sweat and overcrowded changing rooms might mean some tweaking. Maybe arrive in pe kit and go home straight after PE.

No. I wouldn't be able to as I'm shielding. That doesn't mean that I'd be against it in principle, I suppose, but I hope they would factor in alternative plans if they chose not to implement social distancing.

No, not at all. My 16 yr old yes...but my risky 14 yr old no. He has a very rare condition and I don't know how catching the virus would effect him.

We think we've had it

I couldn't say until we know about rates in September but if they're similar to now, possibly not.
However situation with our DC is a little unique so accept this would seem overly cautious to others posting here.

Absolutely, I am a TA I would be perfectly happy if we all went back tomorrow completely as normal.
I hate everything about social distancing. I don't believe it is necessary we have had no new confirmed cases in our area for a week at least. You can't catch the virus from being within 2 metres of someone who hasn't got it.

Yes. All children won't be able to go back unless they get rid of social distancing. Not enough room in the school or staff.

Imaystillbedrunk · 04/06/2020 20:54

Perhaps instead of looking for a vaccine, they should be looking into a cheap rapid, not nose swap, test. Regular testing and only allowed in if you have the all clear?

It totally depends on the situation re transmission rates and number of cases in September and whether the set up offered at school would be beneficial to my children. I’ll weigh up the risks in September.

Yes absolutely! That is what they are missing!
