Looks like my early positives did :)

Negative

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/06/2020 20:20

Both look negative to me. No trying to be nasty, but when there really is a line it'll be obvious; they're designed to be seen...

NoWordForFluffy · 03/06/2020 20:37

@ShebaShimmyShake

Use one of those digital Clear Blue ones that literally puts the words "pregnant" or "not pregnant" on the screen. I don't know why more women don't use them instead of these things.

We don't even know what the positive sign is for this particular test. Is it one of those ones which shows a horizontal line as negative and a cross as positive?

Because they're 50 miu whereas an early pink dye test is about 7.5miu, so waaaaaaay more sensitive to hCG in the urine.
ShebaShimmyShake · 03/06/2020 21:01

That's not much use if you can't read the blessed thing though!

HavelockVetinari · 03/06/2020 21:05

Looks like a faint positive to me, congratulations! Fingers crossed it's a sticky bean.

For future reference, there's a Conception board for this kind of query, you could report your post and ask for it to be moved (there are a lot of infertile folk on MN so generally AIBU isn't used for this kind of thing).

And neither is a test that shows negative when you might actually be pregnant, purely because it's not sensitive enough.

The blue cross tests aren't that sensitive, IIRC (about 25 miu).

FRER or supermarket equivalent with 7.5miu sensitivity are best for early testing (and even if your period is late, it might still be quite early in the pregnancy depending on implantation day and length of luteal phase; 12 DPO implantation with a 12 day LP won't get you a positive test until you're a good few days' late).

ShebaShimmyShake · 03/06/2020 22:03

All tests can show false negatives if you're early enough. Better if you at least know for sure it's showing negative. You can always test again if you're late.

For whatever it's worth, my Clear Blue digital displayed "pregnant" five days after my period finished. It was right as well. I had no idea any home test could be that sensitive.

I just can't see the point of using an extra sensitive test when it's apparently so inconclusive that you're going to have to wait until you're further along anyway. This thread alone shows a complete lack of consensus and goodness knows we get enough "is this a line?" threads on here to indicate they're not easy to read. Wait a bit and do the less sensitive test that will at least give you a clear, unmistakeable answer one way or the other. That's my suggestion.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/06/2020 22:56

That was most likely implantation bleeding, not a period, and therefore the test wasn't being that sensitive.

The test she used isn't extra sensitive; that's partly the problem. It's about 25miu. Extra sensitive is 7.5miu (ish).

My suggestion is just let people do what they want to do. There will always be early testers about (I'm one as I had no patience). So I can't get wound up by people being impatient too. But if you are impatient, at least use a suitable test for it!

BeingKindIsFree · 03/06/2020 23:04

I can definitely see a line in the first test, not 100% sureon the second one tbh.

Isn't that a first response? So usually accurate early on. I used one late afternoon the day beforemy period was due and my line was similar to the first one, maybe just a bit darker.

Try a first response with a FMU.

solieltoday · 03/06/2020 23:14

Where is the line supposed to be??? It’s been a while since I did one of these and they’re all different.

Is the line meant to make a cross in the circular window? If so, I can see a faint one in the first picture but not in the second.

Thank you, but it was most certainly a period. It arrived dead on time, lasted five days and was normal flow (for me). I know, I was surprised too. But there it is. It would appear that I ovulate ridiculously early.

I'm not suggesting not letting people do what they want to do, much as I like the idea of bringing in the army to force entry into people's houses and chuck out those shite tests. (Sheba for Prime Minister. Vote Sheba.) I'm suggesting that if a test is so hard to read that a group of mothers on a parenting website can't agree whether it's yes or no, then it will probably serve you better just to use the one that actually says yes or no. If it says no and you still don't come on or you start exhibiting pregnancy symptoms, take it again; at least you know what it said. You were only going to have to take it again anyway because you couldn't read the blue lines fecker the first time round. I know it's hard to wait, but again, if you can't read the sodding thing...

mcmooberry · 03/06/2020 23:32

I think positive!

NoWordForFluffy · 03/06/2020 23:46

@ShebaShimmyShake Or you could use an actual sensitive test if you're testing early.

And yeah, you appear to ovulate before your period on those timings. So I vote implantation bleed!

IveBeenBit · 03/06/2020 23:55

I see a faint line on the first picture. Could be early pregnancy but I'd wait a couple of days and test again.

I hope you get the result you want!

Much as I know you'd love to hear about my sexual and medical history, I'm going to keep it to myself and just ask you to take it on trust from me since I'm a bit more familiar with my own circumstances than you are.

Use any test you like, but if you're using one that is apparently impossible to understand, do bear in mind that there is a pretty good one out there that is literally unmistakable to read. And don't let strangers on the internet dictate your medical and pregnancy history to you, because apparently that needs to be said too.

Crunchymum · 04/06/2020 07:57

Take another test today, can you get hold of a FRER? I never tested early never used them but never used blue dye tests either but they are meant to be the most sensitive so should give you an accurate result.
