School not interested in year 6?

Hi, I would love to hear some totally unbiased opinions please. So I’ve received an email from our primary school that they will b partially opening in 2 weeks. They will b opening for years 6, 5 and 4 Initially however year 6 will only attend school for 1 week and years 5 &4 will b attending through till July.....I feel this is because years 4&5 will obviously reflect the schools SAT scores in coming years and because year 6 are basically no use to them ?? They’re being forgotten about. I need other people’s opinion please?? They will also b opening to year 1 the week after opening the school to the other years ....

I would worry that they are ignoring guidance. We are not taking year 6 back but they will be going to their new schools for two full weeks. in July.

Who has verified their risk assessment?

Our infants has washed their hands of year 2 completely as well - no results to produce, so fuck 'em.

It's ended the time at what was a wonderful school (and the year 2 team are fucking awesome and as frustrated about it as the parents are) on such a sour note. Thankfully the junior school is determined to make the "end" stuff into "beginning" stuff and take on the nice milestone bits themselves whenever they're allowed to - possibly over the summer holidays.

I have no idea who has verified their risk assessment

Our school has basically said year 6 can't come back. We've received a half hearted link to some learning website. And that's it. They're not interested in them at all.

I'm extremely pissed off for my year 6 but am mentally preparing her for secondary now.

Sallycinnamum · 03/06/2020 14:27

Half of my DS' year 6 went back yesterday and I'm so glad I sent him back.

The transition to secondary is hard enough as it is without depriving them of months of no social contact.

Our head was very insistent that if push came to shove she would prioritise the year 6s above reception and year 1.

Theres another 7 weeks until term ends and the parents I've spoken too are pleased they sent their year 6s back.

listsandbudgets · 03/06/2020 14:51

Our DCs are in years 3 and 9 and it feels as if they don't exist as far as school reopening is concerned

They are both desperate to go back nothing to do with my teaching abilities obviously

my2bundles · 03/06/2020 16:21

I don't understand why year 6 are going back anyway. From this point onwards they don't do much work as such just perfomances trips and activities that they carnt do . Surely year 5 would be a better choice. Secondarys don't have any guidance for September and won't be doing the usual transition visits. My kids already in secondary have no idea when they will be returning or how school will even work. Par time? Certain year groups? We just don't know yet. Taking year 6 back for transition is ridiculous because we have no isea how secondarys will operate in September for other year groups never mind the new year 7s. What exactly are year 6 supposed to be prepared for exactly when the other year groups haven't been told yet?

sahbear · 03/06/2020 16:49

Y6 (like all the other children) need an education. They have also missed everything they should have covered in the last 2 plus months. If the government picked y6, 1 and r then then the school should be following that advice. I would be very frustrated if it was my y6.

twinnywinny14 · 03/06/2020 16:51

@tiredanddangerous the guidance is purely guidance, it is not statutory or mandatory so schools can do what they like. Tbh yr 6 returning is pointless, all the work they do at this point is to do with transition to secondary school which won’t be happening now anyway. There are other year groups that would benefit more from being at school and should have been prioritised over year 6 imo
