Veneer on front tooth. 3 actually. 1 is 25 years old (number 2) and the 2 front ones are to replace 2 22 year old ones that never ever came off, they were however discoloured and cracked and contributed to a deep abscess resulting in root canal treatment and then veneers replaced under the NHS.

Anyway. One pings off every 3 to 4 months and did it today. No NHS dentist open and even when they do, they will prioritise those in pain which is absolutely fair enough..

Am going to try and find a private dentist next week.

In the event of private dentist not being able to help, has anyone successfully repaired a veneer using stuff you have managed to buy online? Bought some stuff from boots but suspect it will just ping off again.

I will probably have this tooth crowned when I can, it's just something to get me through lockdown. If anyone knows if anything strong enough but safe for a semi permanent repair.

I can't imagine a veneer 'pinging' off Grin sorry, nothing helpful to add

pinktaxi · 01/06/2020 22:14

Asked my nhs dentist about veneers recently and it's about £250 as they are not nhs work, but all private cosmetic. Cheaper to have a crown. My dentist did put a white filling around the jagged edge of my front tooth for £66 ish which looks great. So maybe something similar to repair the veneer? Guaranteed 1 year, so they'll replace free

@CoRhona it just literally fell off in my mouth as I was running. I'd like to think it was I was creating so much G force it pinged off. But the reality is it was probably my fat belly vibrating up to my comedy boobs that caused too much vibration through my double chin for it to cope.

@pinktaxi I think I am going to have to have it crowned, it comes off every few months. Just wanted a temporary fix until I can get to the dentist and get it sorted. It's so annoying, they look amazing but for some reason this one keeps coming off.

Was done by my lovely NHS dentist after a long referral process as it's cosmetic work and not usually allowed on NHS. So it's very disappointing it's failing. Am going to have it looked at by a cosmetic dentist before I change to a crown though, see if they can advise anything different.

I had issues with my front teeth. They were smaller than they should be and the colour was not great.

I discussed it with my dentist and I had composite material added.

They take an impression of your teeth and have a mould made. The material is put in the mould and it's placed over your teeth. Once it's hardened it's removed and the dentist files it to the correct shape.

I had this done when I was in my early twenties and they lasted over 20 years. I had them re-done a few years ago.

They are lovely. They look and feel completely natural. They are cheaper and more hardy than veneers.

@uggmum. That’s what the dentist put on my from tooth with the jagged edge. It the composite used for white fillings. Only lasted a year though, but it’s literally bonded to the biting edge of my front tooth so quite small and narrow. Cheap though!

Frouby your update has just made me snort my coffee! I have terrible teeth so sending sympathy.

How did it go in the end @Frouby - I’m having similar issues.

I ended up paying privately to have it put back on, was about £200 so spendy but I would still be walking around now minus the veneer so for me it was worth it.

To be honest it feels a lot tighter than when the NHS dentist fixed it on and the private dentist was lovely. He said he uses a different cement to the NHS and he did it differently as well so hoping its money well spent. I can feel the difference between the one put back on by NHS and the privately fitted one, there is a little tiny ledge I can feel with my tongue in the nhs one whereas the privately refitted one is bang flush to the tooth behind it.

I’m so pleased you got it sorted @Frouby - I’ve managed to get an appointment later this week so hoping I can get sorted too. Interesting to hear that it feels even better now - that’s good.

Frouby · 28/07/2020 08:50

Good luck, I think if the other one ever came off and this privately fitted one stays secure I'd be tempted to pay privately again. The private dentist said the veneers were excellent quality, but did say NHS dentists don't do much cosmetic dentistry so aren't always practicing whereas for a private dentist it's bread and butter work for them.

Hope you get it sorted, there is nothing worse.
