Yes, not really an AIBU.

Made it on a whim this morning...

Oh. My. God.

Most damn delicious thing ever. And SO EASY! I just had to share with you all.

Also, it's no-bake so a great thing to do with the kids!

I love Tiffin. Thankyou for posting this.

NeutralJanet · 01/06/2020 13:55

Might give this a try, I wonder if it would work well with crushed up lotus biscuits.

Coffeebiscuitsrepeat · 01/06/2020 14:03

@neutraljanet I feel like that would be amazing. I used dark chocolate digestives as that's what I had in the cupboard. I also think a splash of something boozy would be wonderful!

God damn it I bought the stuff for chocolate brownies this morning, wish I'd planned tiffin!

LillianBland · 01/06/2020 14:54

That looks delicious and egg free! Yay! Thank you OP.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 01/06/2020 14:55

YANBU! Tiffin is amazing. Even better with some crystalised ginger finely chopped and added. And you can add in any chocolates or sweets etc, made it with a box of Celebrations and it was excellent

Hillarious · 01/06/2020 14:59

Great recipe, but really you don't need the additional sugar. It's sweet enough with the biscuits and syrup. Unless, of course, you're the kind of person who would top a chocolate digestive with a spoonful of sugar!

UnconsideredTrifles · 01/06/2020 15:40

I do love a good Tiffin...

Let me reciprocate by suggesting you search 'squidgy chocolate pear pudding' on the BBC site. It is, quite literally, the best thing ever - and surprisingly quick and easy. Plus, since it's full of fruit it MUST be healthy...

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/06/2020 15:44

Fab recipe. YANBU at all OP.

Coffeebiscuitsrepeat · 01/06/2020 15:50

I actually did mine with melted twirls (that's the only milk chocolate I had), and 70% Green and Black's... Worked wonders! I might try it with a caramel bar mixed in next time 😍

Can I suggest that you never ever follow through on the thought "I wonder what it would be like to put the caramel topping from Millionaire's Shortbread on the top of Tiffin...?"

Coffeebiscuitsrepeat · 01/06/2020 15:55

@soupdragon A-ha! Care to enlighten us of your experience?

Thanks OP, I've been thinking about making something, CBA faffing around creaming, baking etc, but tiffin I can do.

And as long as you get the chocolate/syrup/biscuits and other bits ratio right, so it holds together properly, you can put whatever you want in it, so good for using up odds and sods of dried fruit, nuts, cheap boring biscuits that no-one really likes etc.

Or you can go a bit fancy and make it with nicer biscuits, bits of fudge, glace cherries, or whatever you like. Whichever way, the cheap 30 p bars of value chocolate sold in most supermarkets are great for this sort of thing.

I couldn't stop eating it.

SoupDragon · 01/06/2020 15:58

The texture of the Tiffin coupled with that dreamy bit where the chocolate hits the gooey caramel...

IncrediblySadToo · 01/06/2020 16:01

YABU

low carb is hard enough without TIFFIN recipes popping up.

Coffeebiscuitsrepeat · 01/06/2020 16:13

@soupdragon I will be putting caramel on next time Grin

I use twice bars to get the caramel hit and I do prefer chopped dates to raisin. But they with cold tray bakes it’s just what’s in the cupboard. Oh and Reece’s because everything in between with peanut butter.

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 01/06/2020 16:19

We just made this! Delicious! Thanks!

TheNoodlesIncident · 01/06/2020 16:24

We use this recipe a lot as we used to make it for the school fairs. It always sold really, really fast and we discovered the last time (so Y6 summer) that the PTA helpers were buying it themselves before it even hit the cake stall. I hope someone else makes it instead, it was really popular. We modified the recipe to include chopped apricots too, it works very well and we can pretend it's healthier and one of your five a day . And used Galaxy chocolate for the topping.

Haven't made it in ages as dc now in Y7 and his school don't do requests for home baking/cake stalls at the school fairs and we wouldn't make it just for ourselves as it is quite, ahem, cal-horrific. But so, SO good...

Kaathesnake · 01/06/2020 16:31

I used to make this to take to work as leaving cake/birthday cake etc

Was definitely the most popular person in the building on those days😄. I used to get requests! But kept as a ‘special day’ cake, it appeals to most people, more so than traditional cakes... love you OP!! >> wanders off to look at ingredients...🤔

totallydevoidofideas · 01/06/2020 16:38

Here is my 'go to' easy recipe that tastes better than you'd think.
Ingredients: tin of condensed milk, large bar of good chocolate, packet of digestive biscuits. Method: batter the biscuits into crumbs, melt the chocolate and milk together and combine. Put into a rectangular tin, press it down a bit. You can top with other things but it doesn't really need it. Reqs this recipe in a paper years ago and have made it lots of times for bake sales etc. So easy!

Coffeebiscuitsrepeat · 01/06/2020 16:46

Some great ideas everyone! Will save this and make the other suggested tweaks and recipes Smile

@idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb Yay! Glad it went down well.
