To want to but my baby a jumperoo?

farmertom · 01/06/2020 13:07

I have a 4 month old. We got his older brother a jumperoo when he was a similar age and he liked it, it also gave me time to do a few things.
I know my baby would love the jumperoo even more than his sister as he enjoys just hanging out and playing with toys.
Unfortunately we gave away our first jumperoo as hadn’t planned on more kids.
I bought the first one new for over £100.

I said today to my husband ‘it’s about time to get baby a jumperoo I think he’s enjoy it’ and husband said he’s fine he doesn’t need one he has a door bouncer. The door bouncer is a pain to get baby in and out of and I don’t like to put him in there for long.

Anyway he basically said no and I’m not buying one you get it if you want it. I pointed out I’d bought the previous one. He’s now in a mood for some reason. I could afford it at a stretch but I’m on mat leave. He could afford it without a problem.

Sorry longer than I meant it to be

TLDR; I bought a jumperoo for first child (no longer have it) I want one for my second and DH said no and got in a mood.

Facebook marketplace is the answer.

My son used to bounce until he fell asleep, then cry and furiously bounce again if you tried to take him out, until he fell asleep again.

oldtownroad · 01/06/2020 15:11

Ask him to pay half?

Agree get one second hand, no need to spend £100

Harriett123 · 01/06/2020 15:14

I got mine free on Facebook marketplace but I see alot on there for 10-20quid.
Also stop using the door bouncer. A friends baby managed to flip hers and landed on her head, needed an ambulance and spent the night in a & e

EasterIssland · 01/06/2020 15:17

Im going against the recommendations here (I know it won’t be popular decision though) and get rid off the door bouncer but also don’t buy a jumperoo. They re both bad for babies hips and they limit their movement.

There are lots on sale at the moment £40-£60 brand new

Discoballs · 01/06/2020 15:22

Jumperoo has been my best lockdown purchase. Since there are no groups and we're in the house 23 hours a day it's been a for send to get the odd 20 mins use of my arms. I got mine second hand for £20.

As an aside, presumably you're on mat leave looking after a baby that you're both parents to, so why does he have access to more money than you?

rottiemum88 · 01/06/2020 15:28

I bought one new for £80. Saw the exact same one on FB marketplace the following week for £30. We then ended up selling ours just before Christmas for £30 in great condition. Have you looked at the second hand options near you?

MintyMabel · 01/06/2020 15:44

They are expensive and annoying. It's been ten years but I can still hear the tune as I think about it.

Buy one second hand and leave the music off.

CatsOfSummer · 01/06/2020 15:55

We've had 2 second hand ones - first we bought for £30 and sold it on, second was the slimline one which we bought for £20 and also sold on. First baby in particular loved it, he was a large wriggly baby who never stopped crawling/moving for a single second, and I really appreciated having somewhere still to put him down for a bit sometimes! Second baby liked hers but wasn't as bothered.

Iggi999 · 01/06/2020 16:00

agree with everyone saying there's something wrong with your finances

farmertom · 03/06/2020 12:21

Sorry for the delay.

Re finances, I didn't really think we had a problem. I was working part time before the baby and have a few months of maternity pay left,, actually probably only one month.

He earns a lot more than me. We have separate bank accounts and credit card each for another one which he arranged and we were meant to use it for joint purchases like stuff for the house or kids, then pay it off at the end of the month by splitting it, but I don't think I've ever actually done that, I think DH has always paid it off.
I pay him a set amount for bills each month and usually pay for one or two of the food shops. Since maternity I've still paid my bills but do a food shop less than once a month. So he's paying for that. He also pays nursery fees, all other bills/council tax - I'm not sure what as he sorts them. And he pays into accounts for the kids and savings each month so although I earn so much less I always thought it was pretty equal? Does that sound normal?
He also pays all the car stuff, and he works from home so is around a lot to look after the kids. His job isn't very demanding for want of a better phrase.

There's no way of knowing whether it's equal without answering one question - how much spending money (for clothes/shoes/hobbies/haircuts etc) do you each end up with once all the bills are paid?
If he had £500 and you have £100 then no that's not fair.

Celerysam · 03/06/2020 12:52

Don't get one at all. They are terrible for babies. They are not good for hips, they can encourage tip toe walking and they hold babies in an unatural position. Also the time they are in there they are not pushing up through their arms, developing core strength or learning to reach out.

Babies are supposed to go through set motor milestones in their development and using a junperoo disrupts that.

ScarfLadysBag · 03/06/2020 12:54

We got a second hand one for a tenner and then sold it for a tenner Grin We didn't use it much but it was handy for sticking DD in for 10 mins to get something done when she was bored of being on the floor.

ScarfLadysBag · 03/06/2020 12:55

There are always loads of them on our FB selling sites because they are massive and people don't want them taking up room. We ditched ours the second we no longer used it.

Pleasenodont · 03/06/2020 12:55

I got my DS the skip hop version which looks a lot nicer for about £30 on eBay. You can get them dirt cheap if you look on eBay or FB marketplace.

3LittleMonkeyz · 03/06/2020 15:39

You can usually take off and wash all the material parts and obviously can clean the plastic, so a second hand jumperoo is actually a really good second hand purchase even during a pandemic.
