Desogestrel and bleeding

Not AIBU but I really need some advice.

I’m coming towards the end of my fourth month.

Month one - no bleeding for 4 weeks - then normal week-long period.

Month two and half way through three - bleeding alternate weeks

Later half of month three and beginning of month four - no bleeding

Now I’ve been bleeding constantly for 2 and a half weeks. First week was normal bleeding (two heavy days, rest light). This week it’s been heavy every day. It doesn’t seem to be letting off.

Combined pill didn’t work for me. The implant had me bleeding more often than not for 10 months until I finally had it removed. Since childbirth (nearly 3 years ago) I’ve had heavy, painful periods and this pill has taken the pain away, but the bleeding is getting ridiculous now. It was at least ‘regular’ off contraception.

Can anyone tell me their experiences and whether it did eventually settle down? I will stick with it for another two months to see but I’m concerned nothing is going to work for me.

I was worried you might say that! I have it in my mind to wait until 6 months anyway as I can’t do much about it right now other than discuss with my GP over the phone (who isn’t the most switched on to women’s problems to be honest).

I had planned to have the Mirena coil fitted originally, but I had some concerns about them being fit poorly/ pushing through the womb.

I guess I just wait it out a little longer, but it’s driving me mad!

I'm on my third packet and my periods have been heavier than on my previous pill. I'm going to give it 6 months then try something else. I was on Noriday which was great for me but now you can't get hold of it. I hope it gets better for you.

Yes I've taken it for 2 separate spells, the first time I didn't have any bleeding, but after my 2nd dc I did have a long spell of bleeding on and off (it coincided with stopping breastfeeding so I think probably caused by hormones), it carried on for quite some time and I was close to giving up with it, but I persevered (because of the previous spell with no bleeding) and it did clear up. I've been taking it for 4 years this spell and haven't had any bleeding for over 1 year.

Yeah I bled for 3 months straight on this one. I stopped taking it because who wants that!

I'm about to give up on this pill. In the last month or two I've had a normal period plus random bleeds every 2-3 weeks in between. Not masses of blood but I'm getting awful aches in my pelvis area. Don't know how else to describe it! I'm also low in mood and feel like crap on it. I've been on it on and off for the last two years. For the first six months of taking it it was great but then the erratic bleeding started.

This was a very interesting read! I started this pill the weeks ago. No bleeding until yesterday.... One heavy bleed in the morning (nothing during the day!) and now woken again with a heavy bleed....

Drs prescribed this as I had a rather large Ovarian cyst. After having it surgically removed at 14 weeks pregnant they said I should start taking this pill after having baby who is now 11 weeks.

I was told I could only have progestogen-only pill as suffered migraines in the past. Is anybody on a different progestogen-only pill they could recommend? Can't be putting up with random bleeding like the ladies on this feed have!

Thanks!!

JB86 · 26/01/2021 07:38

I should add that drs told me to take this as it prevents a high risk of another ovarian cyst forming again....

Dear all, I’m in the exact same boat, please say something that would make me feel less worried: I’ve had a thrombosis 3 months ago, so I had to go on Desogestrel (I’m also taking blood thinner)…so it is my 3rd month and last month my period was 12 days long, this time it is 2 and a half weeks already..and not stopping. I’ve been to gynaecologist, had ultrasound, all seems well, they say it’s not the blood thinner, as it would not affect periods (!?), but just looking at the blood every day, it makes me worried if this will ever stop :’( GP says the same thing, keep taking, it’ll adjust…but I’m very hopeless now, so please let me know your experiences, has it ever stopped for you? Shall I stick with it? I’m so hopeless :((( thanks in advance

I used to be fine on cerazette bit had a break and going back on it bled for over 90 days! Having had enough I went back to the GP who suggested a coil. It was painful for the first month and I still get horrendous pain at the beginning of my period with hospitalisation at times buty periods are more settled but frequent every 18 days. I've been told by gynaecology there are no other options, the copper coil apparently is worse for bleeding and the infection they think won't work for me so just to suck it up! I really hope that you can find something that works but definitely go back and discuss with your GP

I had this as well, but I didn’t stick with it for so long!
My experience was that I started bleeding and it was fairly continuous, it would get worse with exercise and then lighten off again.
I asked to try a different brand of pill, even though in theory they are the same chemical, they seem to have different effects.
I went on to cerazette, stopped bleeding after two days and nothing since!
