anyone else?? am kicking myself so much. followed an ad on facebook - should have known better. trouble was clarkes is having a sale. so I chose sandals for me and ds and dd and paid 86 pounds, but I thought there was something funny as the payment was going through - and then it came up 'payment declined' - and asked me to pay again - luckily I didn't, but I checked my email and there is an email saying I just made a payment to 'woodyma'. I rang my bank as the payment is still 'pending', but they said it was not fraudulent as I permitted the payment. They said I have to wait 15 days and then try and claim it back. Am so annoyed. 86 pounds down the drain. :(

That doesn’t sound right from your bank?? Mine would have done a charge back

Sarah510 · 01/06/2020 01:06

the bank said it was because I had authorised the payment.... i.e. it wasnt taken from my account without my permission. Frustrating that it is still coming up as 'pending' though. I wish the bank could just stop it. they said I have to wait 15 days and then try and claim it back. Feel like such an idiot.

Could you complain to Facebook?

Stevienickssleeves · 01/06/2020 01:46

I'm not being funny, but are you sure it was your bank you were speaking to? How did you contact them? Did they take you through normal security?

Please do not take it lying down and wait 15 days. This should be treated as a fraudulent transaction and investigated now

PumpkinP · 01/06/2020 03:09

My bank has done many charge backs for me even though I’ve authorised the payment. Like when some shoes fell apart 6 weeks after buying them and the shop refusing to refund. Bank did a charge back, like I said that doesn’t sound right from your bank

Mnthrowaway20202 · 01/06/2020 03:18

It doesn’t matter if the transaction was authorised by you, if you don’t receive the items or the items aren’t as described you can still open a dispute - obviously just under another dispute reason?

Mnthrowaway20202 · 01/06/2020 03:18

You have to give it time though, not 5 minutes after the transaction went through. You need to wait a reasonable amount of time for them to dispatch it.

bonsaidragon · 01/06/2020 03:20

Like app said you have to wait and see if you get the sandals.

Unhomme · 01/06/2020 06:21

Are you sure you got scammed? Often the payee isnt the same as the website as it can be a holding company or reseller. Your bank only knows that you have made an online purchase.

What was the website address?
Did you get a screenshot of the payment declined page?
Have you been sent a receipt and order details?
Can you track delivery?

BilboBercow · 01/06/2020 06:31

No what your bank is telling you is definitely correct. It's not fraud if you permit the payment. A chargeback can be processed if you either don't receive the goods or if they're not as described.

trellishead · 01/06/2020 07:32

A chargeback is also given when the customer has unwittingly used a fraudulent site posing as a shop. It happened to me once, unbelievably, and I received the money back immediately. They had to investigate it to "confirm" the payment decision was permanent but the refund happened immediately.

NekoShiro · 01/06/2020 08:10

Use an ad blocker going forwards and stop clicking on any ad, Google anything interesting you see to go directly to the store website, scams are rampant right now, I'm really sorry this happened to you,

Did you save the Web page address? A good way to tell if it's a scam is to see if the website has suddenly changed from a shoe shop to a watch/dress/other type of bait shop or the shop website will suddenly dissappear, if either of these things happen I would say that's proof enough for the bank that it's a scam.

DDiva · 01/06/2020 08:12

It could be dodgy but at this point that is based on a feeling. It is possible the shoes arrive. If not make a charge back in 15 days.

AJPTaylor · 01/06/2020 08:29

I have seen that website advertised on fb. I'm not surprised you were taken in, it's pretty convincing.

SaraCambridge · 01/06/2020 08:38

My dh got scammed by that too, a few months ago. He paid with MasterCard and got the money back from the bank. Yes, FB should be held responsible. 🤞🏼

CecilyP · 01/06/2020 08:46

You’ve almost certainly been scammed but your bank can’t do anything as yet because you have no proof that the shoes won’t arrive. Once they don’t, or you are sent something of far less a value, you can raise a dispute with the bank again. Keep all the information you can about the transaction.

Facebook should not be accepting these ads. Is it possible to complain to them?

SaraCambridge · 01/06/2020 08:52

You might see a currency transfer fee on your account too, we did. He received a pair of trainer socks from China. 😂 Bank had already refunded by the time they arrived.

adavia · 08/01/2024 12:01

I got a pair of boots, I picked the wrong size and would like to exchange them for a larger size. When I tried to message them to find out how, my email doesn't go through.

Could you complain to Facebook?

I am sorry to say you will find Facebook don't give a fuck about this sort of thing. If they were a newspaper they would be subject to regulation, but they are allowed to advertise anything and take the money with no consequences.
