Extension of Maternity Exemption Certificate due to dentists being shut

Happy to move this to Covid or maternity section as I wasn’t sure where it should sit!

I’m due back to work at the end of July after a period of maternity wave. I’ve been needing to go to the dentist since having my baby, but my teeth have been so super sensitive throughout this pregnancy it’s been vomit inducing! The dentist could only do a quick check before the inevitable. Anyway, I’m much back to normal but can’t obviously see a dentist. I feel slight out that I may need to pay for my check up etc as my exemption certificate expires in August and dentists are yet to be confirmed as when they will open, and then I don’t know if I’ll be able to get an appointment.

AIBU to see if they can extend by the amount of months I have been unable to use the service? There’s nothing on their website...

Dentists are reopening on 8th June, get in quick just incase, but they should honour your exemption period hopefully as they weren't offering the service.

You can ask, but I think it’s unlikely. Everyone has lost out on opportunities and privileges because of this horrible situation, and I don’t think it will be possible for everyone to have it made up to them.

I’m sympathetic because I’m currently pregnant and have been struggling with toothache and not able to see a dentist (free or otherwise!), but I don’t think it’s something you can fix now.

I assume baby is 1 or close to being 1?

My dentist said they have no PPE and can’t get any so despite gov advice can’t reopen. I’m on a waiting list of 100 serious patients. Saying that dental care is free till baby is 1 so you should be ok.

Dentist are opening for emergency cases only to start with.We still cannot use any equipment that produces aerosol spray ie the drill.All the policies and procedures
have changed dramatically due to covid so we need time to implement all these changes so its safe for staff to work as well as patients.
We found out we were returning to work at the same time as everyone else in the UK with the announcement on TV with no prior warning at all.
Its not as simple as business as usual unfortunately and rountine check ups will be wayyyyy down the line.
Many may not open to patients fullstop on the 8th due to lack of upgraded PPE now anyway.We now require the same masks that hospitals require and they are like rocking horse poo at the moment and rightly should go to them.

Baby turns 1 on the 31 August and certificate expires on the 18th August. Fingers crossed I can get in as it’ll be tricky trying to manage working full time, whatever my five year old’s schooling looks like in September and baby starting at nursery, again however that is managed.

Just thinking ahead and agree with other PP, a lot of people have missed out on things, and whilst this is a first world problem, it’s such a good perk 🤣
