Just that really. What can they do? What do they struggle with? What do they like to do with their time?

I am always struggling with feeling like my summer born triplets seem behind their friends. I suppose I'm just looking for some reassurance Blush

Likes: playing with toys, climbing frame, crafts, helping me

Is kind and patient with those younger or less able

Is good at writing but terrible at spelling. Very good at maths.

Good at sports.

Struggles with good sportsmanship, can get very tired and stroppy.

Is that the sort of thing you meant?

Chattercino · 31/05/2020 20:04

Assume your triplets were born preterm, OP? Are they girls or boys?

Summer born boys are usually behind their peers, and usually catch up by 7/8. As long as they are happy, does it matter?

happytoday73 · 31/05/2020 20:12

Why do you think they are behind?

In some cases the play will vary... So my youngest at end of yr2 was far more into technology than my eldest at same age. His best friend has younger siblings so much different play between the two.

At the end of yr2 my summer born child liked to colour, make wierd models, play on trampoline, collect cards, play with cars and dinosaurs and play basic games like connect 4, labyrinth etc.

Maths is great, writing and English seemed very much younger than older children in year...

August born boy here. Also a middle child. He's not behind academically but has never been top of his class for anything. Happy to be playing any sports, normally pretty good and wins races etc. Sometimes he's still tired after a day at school and needs a whole afternoon slumped on the sofa and sometimes he comes out full of energy but emotionally everywhere. School can be tough for him... He'll never go back there now though as he moves up to the next school in September.

I can't describe it. They don't seem as grown-up I suppose. Their conversational skills and confidence are behind, they seem very young and dependent on me for lots of things, they don't know how to ride a bike without stabilizers, yet all their friends can, just things like this Blush

Summer born girl here. Reception and year 1, was always academicaly behind her Sept born peers. Started catching up bu the end of year 1, and doing really well in Yr 2 until Covid hit. Academically good in English, reading, spellings (not brilliant, but dedinitely within the ‘meets expectation’ band. Struggles with maths, but we’ve put more effort into this whilst homeschooling. She’ll get there though!

Summer born DD, year 2

Quite grown up, great conversation and company. Very sensible and can be trusted to behave in almost all situations. Loves the trampoline, crafts, things like swimming pools for her Barbies in the washing up bowl. Loves to help with household tasks, can feed the dog and hang washing on the line for example, very 'capable.'

Good at maths and has lovely handwriting, reading average at best and spelling appalling.

Her brother is almost 9 and although he's lovely, she's far more grown up and sensible than him!

You have three children at the same stage.. Its likely that some things they haven't got yet because you have 3 to juggle...others have the luxury of always being 1 on 1.

Bike example is fine.. honest... My son only got riding a bike without stabilisers as about to start yr3... He isn't the most balanced child and not very careful... Just throws himself at it... It took me days of running up and down with him to crack it...much easier with my first..
... Having to do that three times.. Oh my.. You have my sympathy

In many bigger families dynamics are different... Single children are sometimes treated like an adult, given more oppertunity for opinions/decisions etc so can come over as older. In bigger families that rarely works and parent often more in charge or chaos reigns 🤣... As it works better/less noisy/faster than trying to do other way...

I think they are likely fine.many kids stop being children too early these days... Hopefully your gang have it just right...

June born ds. He can ride a bike with stabilizers. Reading books on level 6 of Oxford reading tree. Can do maths with numbers up to 10 but not any further. He can write most letters but gets a few the wrong way round. Can write his first name with one letter the wrong way round but no other mistakes. He likes duplo, dressing up, his wooden train track and toy cars, fire engines etc. He likes watching waffle the wonder dog, topsy and tim, postman pat and fireman Sam on tv although he will watch more grown up stuff with his older brothers sometimes.

He was born prematurely (35 weeks) and has a mild learning disability

I’m in Scotland so not sure if reception adds On a year...what year were the kids born? 2013? 2014?

GuyFawkesDay · 31/05/2020 20:54

Mine is the exception rather than the rule, she's quite something 🙈 Late July girl but has older sibling which I think makes them older. She is, my mum informs me, divine retribution for me as a child.

Ready Roald Dahl. Likes maths, has mastered 2,5 and 10 tables and numbers to 100 including adding/subtracting them. Is above expected levels in everything. A bit of a competitive self driver.

Loves Sylvanian families, Lego, crafting, gardening, imaginative play with Schleich. Also likes Harry Potter due to older siblings.

Has just mastered riding bike without stabilisers during lockdown.

Still struggles with emotions and is headstrong, can be a real bull in a China shop 😁

DS couldn’t be any later summer born - very end of August. He is notably less mature than some of his Autumn/Winter born friends. He can still be very silly and has that young naivety.

He enjoys school, loves learning, and is enthusiastic. He is confident
He is at expected levels in all areas, according to his reports.
He loves maths and reading, is pretty good at spellings but doesn’t enjoy writing/English. He seems to struggle/doesn’t enjoy creative side of things. Not sure whether that’s an age or personality thing - his Dad and I aren’t creative so who knows

He enjoys sport but struggles with losing and gets a bit short tempered. Has been riding a bike since 4 and is now doing some mountain biking with us.

Still struggles to control his emotions and is quite needy in terms of our attention so doesn’t play much independently

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/05/2020 22:15

DS is mid June.

He can ride a bike easily but can't tie shoelaces and struggles with telling the time.

He's good at spellings but doesn't enjoy writing much. Listens to me read but doesn't read himself for pleasure although he can read at a Year 4 level.

He can be quite shy but he has a few good friends at school. He likes to laugh and is probably a bit more immature than the older children in his class.

School work wise I'd say he's in the middle of his class.
