5 year old doing egg sugar shot challenge??

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this is stupid.
Just saw a video on Facebook of someone I know, their 5 year old doing this challenge. Drinking raw egg and throwing up, but being encouraged to carry on drinking it and throwing up still. The shot at the end was juice but WHAT?
Everyone's said oh well done, so proud of you etc and the family donated £30 to the NHS, but personally found it disturbing.
Someone said oh they have balls doing this challenge, and amazing etc.
Are we making children drink raw egg to show support now??

Ong that sounds crazy. The poor child. I saw something similar where parents were "challenging" their children to stay in their bedroom for 24 hours.

Sometimeswinning · 31/05/2020 07:46

I've not seen anyone ask a child to do it and if I did I would comment on their post! I'm guessing you didn't say a word op? Apart from on here obviously!

Blahblahidontcare · 31/05/2020 07:53

No I didn't comment on their post. I'd be the only one out of about 100 folk that didn't agree and since I live in the same area, I don't want any bother. Which would happen.

@Zoeyclash what?!! Please no. lockdown not enough? Do kids need further pressure on their mental health by isolating them for 24 hours? Nuts.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 31/05/2020 08:02

That’s horrendous. I wouldn’t do it as an adult and there is absolutely no way I would want my DD(6) to do it.

mooching · 31/05/2020 08:04

Yes I have seen some doing it on DS's class WhatsApp group (yr 4). I also thought it was horrible.

Nitpickpicnic · 31/05/2020 08:08

There’s been a surge over recent years in kids with emetophobia (irrational fear of vomiting). It can lead to eating disorders and is a long hard road to treat. Even a mild version makes normal life very hard for kids and families.

These stupid ‘food’ challenges can easily be the initial trigger for emetophobia, or exacerbate it in kids who have it or kids who watch.

Unnecessary, wasteful, dangerous to mental health and only ‘fun’ for bullies if you ask me.

Cremebrule · 31/05/2020 08:10

The stupidity of that has shocked me. That poor child. Donating £30 to the Nhs doesn’t fix that and I’m sure most healthcare professionals wouldn’t want money donated from a child doing that. He could have choked on his own vomit

CecilyP · 31/05/2020 08:11

It’s dreadful! I’m sure most others who saw it would be thinking the same as you. I have seen posts on Facebook where I’ve been tempted to make a negative comment but haven’t but if I saw this I really would have to say something. Even if it’s only, ‘why can’t you just donate to charity without putting your child though this’. No, it’s really disgusting and should be called out.

FourPlasticRings · 31/05/2020 08:14

You could always see what Childline have to say about it.

Kittenlicker · 31/05/2020 09:22

Also the NHS is not a charity. It’s a dangerous path to treat it as such.
