To ask about alcohol free wine/gin/ect

So I’m laying off the alcohol, it’s making my anxiety awful and since lockdown it’s really creeping up on me that I’ve been drinking more and more! The next day I’m riddled with anxiety and I’m fed of of it.
I’m going through a shit break up and realise I have to start helping myself in order to feel better.
Anyway, today is day 5 and was my biggest test for 2 reasons. First being that I went to a friends house that always wants a drink, second being my toddler is with her dad for the night so normally I would always have a bottle of wine or Prosecco out of Boredom and loneliness. So I arrived at friends house and I turned down the drink, explaining my reasons why, and she offered my alcohol free gin! I thought why not? I’ll give it a go.. anyway it was lovely, and I really enjoyed it like I would normal gin. I don’t know if it physiologically in my head, but I felt the nice feeling but without getting drunk.
Does anyone have any experience with alcohol free wine, gin ect? Do you feel absolutely normal after and without anxiety the next day? If you recommend to switch, which drinks would you say are good?
Or am I kidding myself?

There is a lovely alcohol free Prosecco called Nosecco. It's in most major supermarkets and is nice and dry not like some alcohol free wines which just taste like fizzy grape juice! The Sainsbury's taste the difference alcohol free sparkling wine is also very good.

Tesco do their own brand alcohol free G&T which is cheaper than the Gordon's one.

I'm in month 9 of no drinking! I've stopped. Makes my mental health bad. I find the best AF beer is either freedam or San Miguel. I like nosecco for Prosecco and rawsons retreat white wine. I like having options! Currently drinking sparkling water with elderflower cordial-lovely and refreshing. Good luck. The AF life is amazing ❤️

*Belvoir do a juniper and tonic, which is lighter and very pleasant

That sounds promising. I like gin because I like the taste of juniper. Is this widely available?

I have yet to try any alcohol free wine that tastes anything like wine.

If I'm not drinking I prefer just to have a tonic water instead of a gin and tonic

I often do that. My favourite alchol free beer is Erdinger, by a long way. I wish it came in smaller bottles though.

Well ladies, how lovely to wake up feeling good! I’m sat in my garden sunbathing and reading my book..
I think one thing I’ll try to remember is, I doubt I’ll ever wake up in the morning and say ‘I wish I’d drunk that bottle of wine last night’
I’m not a fan of beer, but going to get the AF gin

Thanks everyone

I drink a lot of Brewdog Punk AF or Nanny State. Stopped drinking alcohol completely during lockdown as it was making me feel rubbish in the mornings, best decision I could have made. Mornings are depressing enough without feeling ropey from the night before.
I do think that there is a big gap in the market for more low-alcohol drinks tbh. Grown up stuff. I found the Seedlip stuff completely rank.

So sorry to hear you're having such a tough time.

Quitting alcohol should really help with the anxiety. I massively recommend Hayman's Small Gin. The gin itself isn't actually low alcohol (it's 43% ABV) but it's designed so that you only need a 5ml serve (for which they provide a super cute thimble!) which in a G&T works out at about 0.2 units of alcohol. And it tastes really good! You'd hardly know the difference. Trust me, I hardly know the difference and I'm a gin judge!

Anyway, you can read more on my blog. Hope it helps.
