Adults sulking over tickets

Our local national trust house has announced its opening back up from the 3rd. You have to book online in advance. I decided to book mine at midnight as I was still awake and really want to take the kids for a picnic and a walk. It's been a long time since they've done anything remotely normal. There were 58 tickets available for each day. I got two. Then by 9am this morning Saturday was booked up. Still spaces available on wed and Thurs and Sunday.

The page put a really positive welcome back post on Facebook. Everyone is kicking off. Threatening to cancer membership. Kicking off about non members being allowed to go.

None of them have bothered to read it states the house and play areas are remaining shut. They are asking if it's all open etc. Basically you can go for picnics and walks in the gardens.

If I didn't get a ticket I would not be on FB giving the page hell and being mardy. Theres literally 58 spaces and everyone seems to think they deserve it more than others. We won't be selfish and book again for a few weeks to give others a turn. But Jesus what is wrong with people's attitudes.

Maybe non-members should have priority? You know, those who can't afford NT membership and perhaps don't have gardens.

halcyondays · 29/05/2020 14:01

Would the law have stopped them offering members to book an hour or two before everyone else I wonder?

MarginalGain · 29/05/2020 14:02

Were the tickets free?

Howaboutanewname · 29/05/2020 14:02

They want our money, members need to be a priority. It’s not cheap. If they are making members a priority then fine, not everyone will get to go but if it’s a free for all, we will not be renewing.

mellicauli · 29/05/2020 14:03

Membership of national trust is a charitable donation, not an exchange for good and services. They could run it like a private members club if they were happy to lose charitable status I guess.

Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 14:04

Tickets were £5 where I was looking. Members are free

Yet here you are moaning about them Hmm

If public parks didn’t exist then you would have a point.

Francina670 · 29/05/2020 14:06

It’ll be 58 per time slot not per day I’d think.

I’ve got tickets for next weekend but not to Belton House.

Got to laugh at the idea that the NT is ‘for everyone’. It’s a middle class ghetto and that’s why members love it so much. If they had any interest in getting ‘everyone’ to come and visit their wonderful things maybe they could at the very least ensure public transport access to venues near cities or offer discounted admission to groups from disadvantaged areas. They do neither.

Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 14:07

@nasalspray yes because it's petty and rude.what do they want the nt to do? Take my tickets and give them to them because they deserve it more than me? Moaning about the government guidelines is unhelpful. Go on the national trust page yourself. Look at all the me me me me. It's the first week of them reopening. Give them time to work under the new guidelines and figure it out. It's a hard thing to do!!!

OP posts:
nasalspray · 29/05/2020 14:08

yes because it's petty and rude.

Unlike this post Grin

Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 14:09

@Francina670 I'm not sure. It's every 30 minutes and you can stay all day. So I think itl be allowing for up to 100 people as under 5s don't need tickets? I could be wrong!

OP posts:
Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 14:09

@nasalspray don't have to read it lol

Someaddedsugar · 29/05/2020 14:10

I don’t think it’s fair to be exclude non-members (and I am a member and have been for 5 years) as some people can’t afford a membership however surely are equally as entitled to a lovely morning or afternoon out!

Emails have told members on a regular basis that there are plans for re-opening.

I logged on at 9am today and there were plenty of slots for our local NT property and I easily managed to get the slot I was hoping for next week. It does state that the weekly slots will be released each Friday so definitely worth logging on each week to try and get a slot if you’ve missed out.

ToothFairyNemesis · 29/05/2020 14:11

@Francina670 yes they do they offer unlimited free entry to local residents one of their properties is in one of the most deprived wards in the country.

nasalspray · 29/05/2020 14:13

don't have to read it lol

I know I don't. But whether I read it or not you are still doing exactly what you are complaint about others doing.

Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 14:13

@Someaddedsugar

Your post makes sense! They have been informing us as you say. They have offered to freeze memberships too. They are often volunteers and they are doing their best. I agree with you. We all deserve a break right now. There isn't enough ti let's to please. That prooves how popular they are. People just need to be patient. I'm sure they will be able to slowly accept bigger crowds.

OP posts:
Lockheart · 29/05/2020 14:14

They can't prioritise members. They are a charity and prioritising members (who have done no more than make a larger, one-off donation) is not allowed.

This is not a theme park or a subscription service. It is a charity. Their donation does not entitle members to special treatment.

PuntoEBasta · 29/05/2020 14:15

NT promote their memberships as a contribution towards the preservation of their properties and land but in reality most members join to make days out cheaper, like a naice Merlin pass.

It’s understandable that members are a bit pissed off (and it was my immediate reaction, although I haven’t complained - I didn’t know about the implications of their charitable status). Tempers are pretty short at the moment.

matchboxtwentyunwell · 29/05/2020 14:16

One of the local NT properties has been doing this for the past week or two. Seems like a good way to do it. Other local NT properties started to as well today.

I do think priority should go to NT members. That's not unreasonable. But otherwise? You should have to hope online along with all the other members and not whinge.

Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 14:16

@nasalspray yes but I'm not being unreasonable. The me me me attitude from adults on the first week. They would never have had enough for everyone. But they will be releasing more slots next week. So if people get on bright and early they should get a ticket.

OP posts:

Where is this?

Applepipsx · 29/05/2020 14:18

@PuntoEBasta

Agree I have it as once my kids have had 4-6 days out weve made our money back. We like to go all year round so probably go 10-12 weekends of the year for a morning or afternoon.
