To be myself in interview video?

Posting for traffic, sorry.

I lost my job at the start of the lockdown. I’ve recently applied for a HR Managers role. The first stage was a real test. In the body of the advert were 3 questions that needed answering via email, rather than clicking the generic “apply now” button. Passed. Great.

Stage 2 was an online form which was a series of questions. Some standard interview types, some quite personal, others to do with personality, some really random! Passed. Whoop!

Next stage says - Please take a 2 minute video telling us why you are the one and send it to... That’s it!!

Company are medium sized. Their website and all material are very much about staff development. Infact, one of the questions in stage 2 was “would you read this book if you are inviting to interview?” so I’ll incorporate that, but what else? What do I wear? What do I say? Literally have no clue (and I’m a recruitment professional! 😂)

Thank you in advance

Sounds a bit nerve wracking but I suppose the good thing is you can practice and not send anything until you've got a video that you're happy with!

My guess would be that they want you to talk about why you're suited to the role and to the company, and to also get an idea what you're like as a person to see if you'd fit with the company culture, so they'd want to see some of your personality and not just a robot. I'd make an effort to look smart, if you know the company has quite a relaxed dress code, then maybe not too smart - like business casual.

I am doing a lot of interviews at the moment where people send a 5 minute video;

Make sure that you are in focus and that you have sufficient presence but not on top of the camera. I have had ones where the person is so close you can see their nose hair and others where you cant really see them well at all.

get someone else to film or set up the camera really well. Think about the camera height and sound. You need to look IT competent. Unless they have told you how to send it them think about what works best. Some formats are definitely better, easier to download and don't seem to hit size issues. Practice sending it to a few friends first to make sure it goes and they can open it.

Don't lean in- lots of people seem to lean in for some reason.

People will look at your house/stuff in the background- what do you want it to say (not that that would influence discussion)

Don't let your children be heard

Smile and relax.

Dress for the role.

If they're big on staff development perhaps talk about how you enjoy learning and developing yourself and are excited at the chance of working for a company that encourages it. I don't know but good luck!

To add- you need a full screen format- no black stripes down each side.

Flowers in the background seem popular- maybe suggests upbeat and trying to achieve normality? Taking a bit of care?
