To be pissed off at Tesco?

Just bought a Tesco Meal and it's microwaveable only !! - thing is it wasn't labelled as such on the front - it just looked like any ready made meal you could oven bake.
Personally I think they should put 'microwaveable only' on the front to stop people making this mistake

Have you got a microwave?

Alittleshortforaspacepooper · 28/05/2020 10:31

What is it? Most stuff for the microwave could probably go in the oven, if transferred to an ovenproof dish

ChangeThePassword · 28/05/2020 10:31

Ha, I'm usual more annoyed if I buy one and discover it has to go in the oven as it takes so much longer!

But I'd never blame Tesco for me making the misusing of not checking. YABU to be pissed of at them for your mistake, sorry. But I get how annoying it is.

Spanglebangle · 28/05/2020 10:31

It will be fine in the oven. What meal is it?

Duvetday8 · 28/05/2020 10:31

I would have assumed most ready meals you can only microwave as I thought that was the point of them? (Disclaimer I don't buy them so could be wrong)

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 28/05/2020 10:31

Stick it in an oven-proof dish and put it in the oven.

Guttersnipe · 28/05/2020 10:32

What makes it microwavable only? The fact that it is in a plastic container? Can you not decant it into an ovenproof container? Other than that, I can't think of anything that cannot be heated in an oven.

TerrapinStation · 28/05/2020 10:32

Just put it in the oven? I don't suppose it will do it any harm

krispycreme · 28/05/2020 10:33

As pp said transfer it to an over proof dish and cook on 180 until piping hot.

StirlingWork · 28/05/2020 10:35

Sorry forgot to mention - no microwave!!

FlamingoAndJohn · 28/05/2020 10:35

I know that you mean op.
I bought a potato dish from Marks and Spencer’s a while ago, just a potato gratin, but I forgot to check the ingredients and found it was made with chicken stock. Not much good for vegetarian me. It was my fault for not checking.

StirlingWork · 28/05/2020 10:36

Thanks it's Tesco's Finest Spaghetti Bolognese

FlamingoAndJohn - must be hard being vegetarian and having to check everything!!

OP posts:
jomaIone · 28/05/2020 10:39

I would just put it in a pan to heat it up

MongerTruffle · 28/05/2020 10:42

If it's spaghetti bolognese, you could just heat it in a pan.

PrayingandHoping · 28/05/2020 10:43

Spag Bol you would never want to put in an oven.

Just heat it in a pan on the hob

HopeYouStepOnALego · 28/05/2020 10:43

The product online says not suitable for oven heating. Can only assume that's because it may dry up the spaghetti as it will take longer to heat in the oven?

Weird that they wouldn't put that on the packaging with the cooking instructions.

Elouera · 28/05/2020 10:47

OMG! This is like the guy that rang asda to complain about his pizza have no topping at all. It turned out he'd opened it upside down!!!

I too would think more ready meal things are microwave only, rather than assuming its for the oven! Also, if you don't have an microwave, why didn't you just read the back of the package to check???

DianaT1969 · 28/05/2020 10:51

If I bought a spaghetti Bolognese ready meal I would assume it's microwave. It would dry out and go crispy in the oven. Do you usually cook spaghetti Bolognese in the oven OP? It's easy to heat in a pan on the hob if you don't have a microwave. Not sure why you'd hold that against Tesco 😕

thatsallineed · 28/05/2020 10:53

It may be because the packaging is not suitable for oven heating. Just decant it into something else and warm it up that way.

StirlingWork · 28/05/2020 10:53

The Sainburys spaghetti you can heat in an oven

FlamingoAndJohn - must be hard being vegetarian and having to check everything!!
I’ve been vegetarian for about 20 years. You get good at knowing what you do and don’t need to check.
krispycreme · 28/05/2020 10:54

@HopeYouStepOnALego it's the packaging that's unsuitable rather than the food I think.

Op we do buy a ready meal spaghetti that only cooks in the oven and it's never dry. As your dish hasn't been developed for oven cooking I'd be tempted to add a splash of water to stop it drying out.
