To think this “let’s just move on” narrative from the government is like an abusive partner ?

Just listening to some government minister being interviewed on radio 4 continuing to insult everyone who has observed the lockdown by Continuing to defend Dominic Cummings For the 5th day.... and then his insistence that we should just stop caring about the government rewriting their own rules, stop caring about the government undermining the lockdown when we have such a high death rate, stop worrying about such a shower of incompetent liars being in charge when the encounter is so fucked.

Just reminded me of an abusive partner/ parent/ relationship, when people try to insist you are going mental by thinking that being treated badly matters!

IE

just stop going on about how I hit you, we need to move on and look after the kids.

Just stop talking about how your father abused you, it’ll upset everyone and we need to move on and talk about more important things!

It is important that the government are trustworthy, competent and have integrity. We cannot he governed by people who break the rules the set. It’s not a witch hunt to care about this!!!!!!

Lying, manipulative psychopaths.
"We've always been at war we've Eastasia". That's it. Move on.

Well, no, we won't move on. Not this time.

NeverTwerkNaked · 27/05/2020 20:40

I agree. I have been in an abusive relationship and this gaslighting and minimising is exactly the game he played. Till you are worn down and convinced that maybe you are the crazy one.

mbosnz · 27/05/2020 21:03

So many of the Pale, Male and Stales, showing themselves for what they are. . .

It's kinda like the Emperor's New Clothes.

StopTouchingYourFaceDave · 27/05/2020 21:21

Entirely correct OP.

He didn't do nuffink. What are you going on about? If he did it was nuffink. Are you still going on? Anyway nuffink happened. Why are you still going on about nuffink? You are being disobedient and making something out of nuffink. What's the matter, you are obviously ignorant/unreasonable/ridiculous/obsessed/irrelevant/damaging/illogical/mad and I should ignore you because I actually have important things to do, this is nuffink.

I watched Cummings' statement. The rehearsed bullshit complete with crib sheet, the repetition and total lack of even attempting anything close to empathy plus refusal to blink or answer obvious questions.

Entirely like watching my ex in action.

I did shout liar at the tv repeatedly and told dc that is what a liar looks like, see the body language, see the disdain on his face, see the utter lack of concern. Won't even tuck his shirt in and sit up straight like it matters to address the UK ffs.

We did watch, we did come to our own decisions and the government doesn't like what the response has been so are trying to tell us off for distracting from a pandemic. How dare we, silly little voters. Who are we to have opinions, we ought not to bother our stupid little brains with such things, disobedience is disloyal and it is us causing harm etc etc.

Abusive is exactly the label for this persistent them and us rot.

We are not stupid. We know about one bad apple in the barrel and want it binned. We expect democracy.

Once the government starts believing its the public who are wrong, not them- then its over.

user1471565182 · 27/05/2020 21:27

Hes had a fucking film made about him, of course people have heard of him already.

Q
What does this mean? I've seen it on other threads.
seriousandloyal · 27/05/2020 21:30

Yanbu OP, I feel the same.

ferntwist · 27/05/2020 21:33

YANBU. The behaviour of Dominic Cummings and the shameless covering for him by the Cabinet have wrecked what had been a strong spirit of national unity towards lockdown and fighting the virus. He has got to go.

buttersidedown · 27/05/2020 21:42

YANBU. I had already written to my MP. Well now I am writing directly to number 10. Boris does not get to decide when we move on! Why oh why could they not just have said ‘sorry, we got it wrong’ rather than dig their heels in and accuse a whole nation of being so idiotic for not understanding the rules. I am furious! The contempt the pair of them (along with Matt Hancock who I also now hate!) have shown for the nation the last few days is absolutely disgusting. And bollocks has Boris seen the ‘evidence’!

Please God it's not Qanon Classic Cola.

If it is, it's an utterly brain dead conspiracy theory that originates in the US. A vomit inducing mix of Trump being our saviour, the deep state, paedophiles and Hilary Clinton et al being arrested en mass for convoluted crimes too ludicrous to mention.

No idea what it has to do with this mess.
