AIBU to be irritated by Matt Lucas as the new GBBO presenter?

I know it’s old news and we have more pressing concerns. But why him? I don’t dislike the man, or Noel Fielding but why?
It was 3 women and 1 man, now 3 men and 1 token woman - like so many other shows. The ‘feel’ of it will be totally different and I’m irritated.

Idk I am very bored at the moment, I doubt I would be thinking about this any other time.

@SumAndSubstance Noel used to go to a nightclub I visited a lot in the 90s and he was - football, banter, pints with the lads etc. He was and i am sure still is an absolutely lovely man but he is very masculine. I remember years and years ago seeing Jimmy Carr refer to Noel and Russell Brand as effeminate but really it's just their dress sense - they are very rock and roll ad massive football fans, unless I misunderstand the word 'blokey'.

Completely agree - plus Sandi and Noel were lovely! I do think that it’s disappointing they went for a bloke and that it’s too white.

I agree OP, I was bitterly disappointed when the gig went to a man. I don't like Matt Lucas but would've been disappointed with any man, even one I like.

Susan Calman would have been good. She was brilliant on recent Great British Menu - supportive, jokey, cheerful and well informed I'm actually a bit tired of these shows having a token 'effeminate' bloke, The Great Sewing Bee has Joe Lycett, Bake off: the Professionals has Tom Allen and GBBO with Noel. Don't get me wrong, I likr Joe and Noel (not so keen on Tom) but their cheesy jokes and one-liners are a tad predictable.

Token woman

Hilarious the thought that the long lived career and professionalism of Prue Leith makes her a "token" . She's got more expertise and personality than the other three put together and can hold her own.

I seem to have misused the word 'token' - I meant it as 'only' - didn't know that there was an inference she was not an expert.

I think the humour of Lucas and his Walliams was very much against women, the disabled, non -white. I always hated them - another fucking pair of white blokes taking the puss out if things they didn’t understand the fragility of (without even being funny). And yes I would like to see a woman - the balance of sexes (and races/sexualities/disabled...) only stop meatyeribh on an individual basis when equality is present so overwhelmingly it’s a non issue.

Actually studies came out that ethnic minorities and gay people are over represented on British TV.

To conflate women and gay men is really homophobic and makes me really cross. Lesbians are women, gay men are men.

I like Nadiya, I bet her and Noel would have had a right laugh and she knows what she is talking about, and she is a woman, and she is an excellent role model to all the young people who watch and she'd have been an excellent representation of the diversity of our country. But I know she's never have been offered it.

The bake-off audience and the woke, bash the Tories audience don't have much in common. It looks like they're going for the latter.
