Car insurance refunds due to coronavirus

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 01:14

Just got an email from Admiral saying they’ll be refunding me £25 on my car insurance policy as there are fewer cars on the road.

I thought it was really nice of them until I googled it and saw there are calls for them to refund policies or freeze payments.

I am using my car and my insurance is £200 a year so not really concerned but wondered what others think?

Thanks

Also with Admiral. Also using my car - only once a week but still.
If it was sworn, fair enough, but as I need it for shopping and emergency then I cannot complain.

My mum gig this too. I didn't, I got a jaunty email from my insurer with recipes and jolly japes to entertain myself with during lockdown.

Neither of us have Admiral though.

Actually the 3 months where I have minimal driving - that has still cost me 70 a month as my annual is 600+ so 200 for little risk to them, getting 10% back is a nice gesture but hardly big beans compared with normal payouts

Also with Admiral and got the £25. The car is barely used of course but it's still parked out on the road at the mercy of eejits, thieves and vandals so insurance is still needed.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/05/2020 03:45

Well some people are still using their cars and most people who own a car want it to be still insured against fire, theft or vandalism, plus we don't want the insurance companies to go bust as you would probably lose the money you've paid for the year and you would then have to buy insurance again from somewhere else so the people who want their insurance refunded in full are being a bit unrealistic. I wonder if they're the same people who signed the petition for paid maternity leave to be extended because they'd missed out on going to baby groups.

No refund here and not expecting one either. I've done far fewer miles than normal but still need to be insured.

Admiral multi car insurance here. I got the same e-mail saying they’ll refund £25 for each car insured with them.
The reason was because there are fewer cars on the road and, so I guess fewer claims. It doesn’t make a lot of business sense to me and I can’t come up with a hidden agenda so I conclude they are being nice.
They were very competitive on pricing already and their customer service is very good. I always shop around but they have come up best for the last couple of years so stuck with them.

I'm with Admiral. I got the £25 back. My policy was up for renewal this week and they quoted me £40 more than last year. When I rang them to cancel (I'd found one for 280 as opposed to the 245 they'd quoted), I managed to get it down to £173 based on the fact that because I'm not using it as much the mileage has reduced. It often pays to find a cheaper quote elsewhere and then ring your insurers, 9/10 they will reduce their quote to match the cheaper one.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 26/05/2020 07:45

280???? 180 otherwise my post makes no sense.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 26/05/2020 07:48

I got the £25 I'm still going to work so still using mine, allbeit not for social purposes. DH got it too there's nothing to sniff at when someone wants to give you a free £50!
