Instinct says do not send my children back to school

gwphillipson · 25/05/2020 12:15

As Boris Johnson said, Dominic Cummings followed his instincts that any dad/parent would do the best for their child.

So as Dominic Cummings is allowed to follow his instinct I for one will be following mine and not sending my children back to school to be used as Guinea pigs until it is completely safe to do so following the scientific advice.

George

You're not unreasonable at all. A lot of parents won't be sending their children back to school on 1st June, it has nothing at all to do with Dominic Cummings. If you are able to keep them at home, do so. In your position, I would keep them at home, at the same time realising it's not so simple for everyone. That's not my fault though.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2020 12:41

What’s the point of this post?!

Tedious goading probably.

I don't give a shit about Dominic Cummings.

Mysterian · 25/05/2020 12:42

Wait a minute...

...You're actually making a point about Dom-Cum and not really about children in school aren't you!?

Hobnobswantshernameback · 25/05/2020 12:44

And you've started an identical spam thread in chat
Welcome to mumsnet

I think we’re all supposed to be heartbroken that OP’s DC won’t be in school. Or some such.

UnderTheBus · 25/05/2020 12:57

Totally different OP. We were told we "must not" leave the house if someone had symptoms. DC did anyway. Nobody has told you you "must not" keep your kids from school - in fact the opposite, in that the government isnt fining anyone who keeps their kids off for now.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/05/2020 12:59

OK? That's fine.

But those of us who do decide to send our children back are not using them as "Guinea pigs" thanks very much.

EatDessertFirst · 25/05/2020 13:01

What do parents not sending their kids back to be 'Boris' guinea pigs' Hmm actually think is going to change by September? Test, track and trace isn't yet fit for purpose and the science apparently says it is safe for the DC to go back to school? The virus won't stop infecting people just because its September?

My 'instinct' is to put the DC back in school as soon as possible to protect their mental health and education.

Just as an aside, I agree with pp who said that you shouldn't expect resources from school to be sent home still if you choose not to send them in. If the teachers are teaching then they won't have time. My DC, who will be at school, shouldn't get less teaching time because of your choices.

Poetryinaction · 25/05/2020 13:24

Are you shielding? There are no guinea pigs. Look up the facts about how ill your children may become.

arethereanyleftatall · 25/05/2020 13:26

As you like op. You do you. They've made it perfectly clear you can choose. Mine are going back as I believe it's in their interest. Yabu.

CoronaIsComing · 25/05/2020 13:28

It’s up to you whether you send your child back regardless of Dominic Cummings so your argument doesn’t really work 🤷‍♀️

Greysparkles · 25/05/2020 13:32

This post is a bit ridiculous.
If you don't want to send your kids back to school... Don't?
That is and always has been your decision as a parent

TitianaTitsling · 25/05/2020 13:32

Op you are such a trailblazer.. go you.

Deelish75 · 25/05/2020 13:33

If I send my children back it will be because I feel it is safe to do so and that it is in their best interest to be there.

I don't agree with what Dominic Cummings did but I am not going to let his actions dictate whether my children return to school or not.

Comingoutontop123 · 25/05/2020 13:36

Take them out and homeschool. No-one cares whether you send your DC back to school or not.

SomewhereEast · 25/05/2020 13:43

Instinct isn't actually a very useful guide in life or parenting. For example parents 'instinctively' focus their energy on stranger danger despite the fact children are much more likely to be abused by someone their family knows & trusts. I'd rather go with the statistical & expert concensus that the risk to children is miniscule

LaurieMarlow · 25/05/2020 13:45

You’re under no compulsion to send them to school. You never were. Did you not know that already?

KeepHimJolene · 25/05/2020 13:45

are all of you in the 'not sending them back' camp also anti-vaxxers??? Genuine question because they are also a bunch of media hyped sheep

WoollyMammouth · 25/05/2020 13:45

Mine go to school as I have to work. Mine aren’t guinea pigs either FFS.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 25/05/2020 13:46

Not really sure what the point of this announcement is?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/05/2020 13:51

My ds is going back

gwphillipson · 25/05/2020 14:53

History lesson
In 1990 a tory MP made his child eat a burger to try and persuade the public that eating beef was OK, even though fears where growing about Mad Cow Disease.

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/577667/Cordelia-Gummer-Mad-Cow-disease-BSE-scandal-25-years

During the 1970s and 1980 people were infected with contaminated blood and the government at the time covered it up

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-45654783

Last year Boris Johnson told us that there would be no customs checks between the mainland and Northern Island, now we know there is.

Time after time after time, governments throw the people of this country under the bus and lie to us to get what they want.

We all know that Dominic Cummings will ignore the rules that he helped set up to protect his son even if that means travelling 260mile to Durham.

So now on the 1st June, he son is in the age group to go back to school, if the schools are really that safe, even though his son has a medical condition he will be safe.

If he does not send his son back, then ask the question why!!! he has knowledge about what's happening and if he does not send his son to school, what is the government not telling us.

I mean its only our children and the government has shown over time that they are willing to lie in order to get what they want

And ilovesooty, I'm been civil and polite and just because you don't like what someone writes does not give you the right to be offensive

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 25/05/2020 16:25

Thank you for all the patronising explanations. I'm old enough to remember those events.

I said what other posters said. Was it the use of the word fuck that you found offensive?

Do what you like. Why should anyone care?

Ireland2021 · 25/05/2020 21:07

Interesting post, from my experience those who swear in online forums do so because they have a very low IQ or are sexually inadequate.

I wonder what ilovesooty's reason is.
