To remove my own coil ?

LockdownSally · 25/05/2020 09:56

So doctors won't take my coil out. Been told it could be many months before they will do so. Tempted to try and get it out myself. My clock is ticking and I'm finding it upsetting that I can't ttc.

Anyone done it themselves?

I don't think you'd even get a private appointment at the moment. I have a follow up consultation with my gynaecologist by phone and he said they were just doing phone consultations with people already on their lists unless it was an emergency. Mine fell out!

It’s one of those things that might be fine but might be awful and for that reason I’d wait.

GuerrillaShoppa · 12/06/2020 13:12

I asked a paramedic if she would take one out for me and she said no as she was not trained to do so. I would recommend not. Instead see if you can get an appointment with a nurse at your GP practice. Good luck!

My friend did this and ended up infertile.

Please don’t op!

Maggie90 · 12/06/2020 13:24

I took my own out after GP friend told me she takes hers out.

Had no problems just pulled very slowly, slightly uncomfortable but no where near getting it put in.

  1. Do not do this - it could be very dangerous.
  2. I got pregnant whilst having a mirena coil fitted so who knows haha
Waveysnail · 12/06/2020 15:04

I accidentally pulled mine out with a tampon

TheQuestionSpottingMedic · 13/06/2020 15:50

Do NOT do this. I had to see a gynae consultant for another reason last night and specifically asked the question. She said absolutely do not remove it. She has X many years of specialist gynae training and still needed a special instrument to remove my coil!

Herecomethehotstepper · 13/06/2020 16:01

No way! I've never had a coil but I did try to remove my own abdominal drain once. If you're not trained and confident, you will move it a little, freak out from the sensation of something moving inside you and then pass out. I ended up back at the hospital and got a bollocking from the doctors.

OhYeahYouSuck · 13/06/2020 16:02

Can you plead your case with your GP surgery? I have the implant that I want removed as it's caused me nothing but problems and I hate the damn thing. I got through to the nurse the other day and she did question me a bit butI was insistant that I wanted it out (this was backed upby my gynaecologist saying he wanted me to get it removed asap as I'm on the pill as well and he isn't happy with the amount of hormones I'm having). She has given me an appointment, albeit reluctantly I think

Angeldust747 · 13/06/2020 16:31

Don't do it! The nurse had a nightmare taking mine out and nearly sent me to the hospital to do it!

susandelgado · 13/06/2020 16:34

Ugh don't do it! Mine became embedded and I needed a general anaesthetic to remove it Sad
