How many meals do you eat a day? And what do you eat for them?

I was raised by my grandma and she was an aristocrat, but poor by the time I was born. Each meal was a grand affair. I’ve carried it on out of habit but it’s a half-hearted copy of what she did and it only just really came to me that I seem to eat many more meals than other people (which explains why I’m fat). It’s always been:

Breakfast: Usually a mug of cereal, or a piece of bread with butter. Eaten right when I wake up and washed down with a cup of tea (never any milk or sugar.

Elevenses: Usually some sort of sweet bun, or bread with honey. Again with tea.

Dinner: Always two courses. First being some soup with a bit of baguette, second being the proper dinner. We always drank buttermilk, but I rarely buy that now and generally have water.

Tea: As in, afternoon tea at about 4:00-4:30. Cakes and biscuits and that sort of thing, w/ a drink of tea of course.

Supper: Basically sandwiches, nothing hot unless there’s any soup leftover from dinner. Of course this also included drinking the final cup of tea of the day.

What do you all eat? If you eat only 3 meals a day do you snack? Do you usually eat your main hot meal in the evening?

I normally eat 3 meals a day and a couple of snacks.
I can't imagine eating the same things I did as a child though, once you're an adult you can eat what you want.

I'm a bit confused by all the comments saying OP must spend all day preparing food - she only makes one hot meal a day and although it has two courses one of those is soup which can either be batch made or shop bought. Cooking one hot meal a day and a bit of toast is hardly spending all day slaving in the kitchen!

Sodamncold · 28/05/2020 10:04

4 meals though?!

Sodamncold · 28/05/2020 10:07

That was to @00100001

Sodamncold · 28/05/2020 10:08

And to refer to grabbing a pear as “elevenses”?!

Sodamncold · 28/05/2020 10:08

No judgement. Just baffled!

Breakfast: cereal, juice
Snack: anything from the cupboard
Lunch: pasta, noodles, sandwich, soup, jacket potato etc
Snack: anything from the cupboard
Dinner: burgers, sausages, curry, chilli, pizza etc
Desert: sticky toffee pud, cheesecake, sundae, ice cream etc
Snack: yoghurt or chocolate

I don't drink tea or coffee. Water and Diet Coke throughout the day.

I'm boarder line underweight even though portions are large and I do no exercise. I guess this will catch up with me one day and I'll either have to eat less/more healthy or exercise.

I don't know how you all eat so much, lol.

I have stomach issues so I don't eat a massive amount at once.

Breakfast - none

Lunch - Soup with seeded bread.

Dinner - chicken with mixed vegetables. Sometimes I'll have chili or spaghetti Bolognese with garlic bread instead, but rarely.

During lockdown, I've naturally fallen into two main meals a day as I havent started to feel hungry until midday ish. So I have a coffee about 10am. Then at 1pm I have my go to lunch, which is basmati rice, two fried eggs, wilted spinach and fresh spring onions. Then dinner at about 8pm which is sometimes steak, chips and green beans, or sweet potato and chicken curry, or spicy chicken with stir fried veg. In between those times I do snack on apples, bananas, strawberries and plain tortilla crisps, or dark chocolate and chocolate digestives. I eat loads of vegetables so usually my skin is quite glowy but my love of wine and gin and tonics means I'm still 12 stone even with relatively healthy eating !

Well I don’t think it’s anything to do with being an aristocrat!!
My grandparents were normal middle class and the menu at thier house was
Breakfast - grapefruit, then some sort of cooked and toast
Elevensies - biscuits
Lunch - cooked lunch and a proper pudding
Tea - cakes and bread and jam/sarnies, trifle or fruit pie
Supper - sandwiches, cheese, fruit, biscuits etc

ClientQ · 28/05/2020 14:01

Today's meals

Breakfast - granola and berries with milk
Snack - banana
Lunch - feta salad wrap, bag of squares
Snack - fibre one bar
Tea - chicken noodles and veg

Probably drink about 4-8 cups of tea a day and a litre or two of v dilute squash
Fairly standard as work breaks have to be stuck to and are timed
