Those that abide by the one-way arrow systems in grocery stores, and those that don't. Which one are you?

Vote YABU if you are an arrow follower. You follow those arrows, no matter how inconvenient.

Vote YANBU if you think 'screw the damn arrows' and forge your own path round the store.

Feel free to comment and explain your choice. Undoubtedly, whichever side you are on is making you want to scream AIBU???

Well, I've been shopping in Waitrose and there are no arrows there. However, I went to Tesco yesterday and it was awful. Talk about confusing! Such a different shopping experience. It felt like survival of the fittest in Tesco.

I did my best to follow the arrows but got cut up several times by other people.

june2007 · 22/05/2020 22:22

Well my supermarket here doesn,t have one way system. But most walk one way but if you have to back to an aile because you forget something, one doesn,t always stick to one way.

ChicCroissant · 22/05/2020 22:23

I follow the arrows, except in one aisle which has arrows going the same way on two consecutive aisles! I know why they've done it that way (sometimes the queue for the checkouts backs up that aisle). The rest of the time they just go up and down consecutively.

The space inside is quite good and it's going to be a shock when we all have to battle our way to the veg again!

Jaxhog · 22/05/2020 22:23

People could join but not leave...

Was this the Hotel California?

JuneJuly · 22/05/2020 22:24

I haven't been shopping but I like to comply if it is helpful for a 'bigger picture', so I would probably follow arrows where & when necessary.

But YABU because I think the two types of people are those who rinse their toothbrush after using & those who don't. Less ambiguous than who follows arrows (not that straight forward as the posts above show!)😁

Clumsyduck · 22/05/2020 22:31

Can I be in the middle

I forget n then try follow them when I remember

sanityisamyth · 22/05/2020 22:34

I often don't see them until I'm half way down an aisle the wrong way. I try to correct it though.

notthreebad · 22/05/2020 22:34

When I have a mini anger triggered meltdown in a supermarket I do a wardance up and down the aisles and it doesn't matter which damn way the arrows are pointing!

Dinosforall · 22/05/2020 22:38

I try in the local Tesco Express but get cut off by people entering the aisle from both ends so then go 'sod it'.

UnaCorda · 22/05/2020 22:38

I went round my local Sainsbury's about three times before finally finding the arrow route that led to the checkout. Blush

CherryPavlova · 22/05/2020 22:40

No, there are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don’t.

Drogonssmile · 22/05/2020 22:41

I try and follow but sometimes I have to go back for something I've forgotten at the other end of the aisle. I have the best intentions but it doesn't always work. Plus when the online shop selecting staff are in the way sometimes there is no option.

Nottherealslimshady · 22/05/2020 22:44

The arrows are a pain. Especially in our local small tesco, I still dont know how to get the sandwich aisle. At our big asda you're forced to go down aisles you dont need full of people standing in the way so you can go up the next one that you do need. None of the staff follow the arrows either.

teenagetantrums · 22/05/2020 22:46

The only shop l go to with arrows is my local co op. I always go after work I'm practically the only person in there after 5pm. No way am l following arrows to get a bottle of wine and a pint of milk.

YouTheCat · 22/05/2020 22:46

Hahaha Cherry Grin

HeatherIV · 22/05/2020 22:47

Some times I just forget, expecially when you skip and Isle.

But I'm pretty sure they're like a one way street though - ok to reverse up. Also if no one else in the isle it's OK to ignore the arrow.

Smellbellina · 22/05/2020 22:50

I don’t think ‘fuck ‘em’ I either don’t notice them because I don’t make a habit of walking around looking at the floor, or I’ve moved on to make room for people behind me and doubled back to get the items I wanted, or I skip aisles because I don’t want anything down them.

Brieandcheddar · 22/05/2020 22:53

I follow the arrows unless the isle is empty. However, i have been standing at the chocolate isle for a while as im very indecisive and a coulle refused to pass me even thoigh there was plenty of room. They stood at the end waiting until i finished. Felt under pressure. Abit unnecessary. People are crazy

Dove71 · 22/05/2020 22:54

My local Tesco is a big one. I suffer from anxiety so when the whole lockdown came up on us it span me out going there for the first time. I went into hyper drive and didn't even see the arrows until some lady looked me up and down and said I was going the wrong way!! I felt awful and ended up following her around the whole shop...up and down the aisles we went together with her throwing me daggers and me growing a great shade of red with every passing moment..I have never not broken the law of the BLUE ARROWS since!

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/05/2020 22:57

If we’re talking ikea pre-covid then yes, I was the arsehole going the other way.

PickAChew · 22/05/2020 22:58

I don't want to follow the hoards through the pasta aisle when I just need some fucking veg.

PeterPomegranate After reading the comments, I now see that it's 'those who see the arrows' and 'those who don't' Maybe they should use a larger, flashing neon arrow to direct their attention to the arrows on the floor.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 22/05/2020 23:24

I have been known to turn my trolley around to face the way of the arrow so it looks like I know what the hell i'm doing. A discreet turn and keep away from people! ( kill me now)

beebeeduck · 22/05/2020 23:30

Two of our local store have the arrows, one closes an aisle when the shelves are being refilled, the other closes the whole shop when they get a delivery. They are small store though.
