Sleepyhead to sleep in

AIBU

I want to put my week old DD in a sleepyhead overnight, my friend said it's far to risky.

Checked with midwife who said it's totally fine.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any opinions either way?

I wouldn't, it's against guidelines and the website states it's not suitable for sleeping in.

I can't comment specifically on the sleepyhead but I would say sometimes you have to weigh up relative risks. I ended up cosleeping for a while which I had never wanted to do. However, it came down to planned cosleeping (following recommendations to make this as safe as possible) or falling asleep holding my baby. I decided planned cosleeping was less risky

I know you already have a sleepyhead - but the purflo nest has been approved for overnight sleeping if anyone else is considering purchasing something similar

I found it really hard to decide what to do with the sleepyhead. With my first, I ordered it at 3am after days of sleep deprivation as she wouldn’t sleep in the cot. The sleepyhead fixed it for us. St the time it wasn’t again the guidance and I bought a new one for no.2. I had been using it for a few weeks and realised the guidance had changed. I kept using it but felt guilty. For me, the problem with the lullaby trust guidance is it is very black and white and there is never really a comparison with you being so tired you do stupid things. I think us falling asleep with our baby lying on us on a rocking chair was far more dangerous than the sleepyhead. Equally, I found guidance around napping in the same room completely impractical with the second child. She slept in our room as per the guidance but she was a child that needed pitch black and silence from 7pm. During the day time, I needed to be there for the eldest. As a newborn it was fine to have her with me but by 3/4 months she couldn’t sleep through toddler noise.

I absolutely loved my sleepyhead. My dd loved it and it used to work some weird magic and get her to sleep. I used it in my next 2 me co sleeper at night and then I'd use it downstairs during the day for naps.

I used it for both of my DC, 6 and 2. They were fine and it was a godsend. Sleep deprivation is extremely dangerous. I had one on the bed next to me and the second one inside a snuzpod next to me. Both b/fed. Did wonders for my sleep and my sanity.

The sleepyhead is NOT a sleep positioner, it has never once been linked to SIDS and has been used in Scandinavia safely for many years. They are SAFE.

Exactly this, they're not Sleep positioners. There have been no deaths linked to them. They were the only one to be approved for overnight sleeping. Supervised means only that you need to be in the same room, travel cots are also to be used supervised.

We used one with DS and wouldn't hesitate to use again. It's a flat firm base surrounded by breathable sides. Lullaby Trust will not ever choose just certain brands to endorse as people will choose cheaper alternatives.

I put DD in it for a bat inside her cot this afternoon and she slept for TWO HOURS!! I feel like a new woman.

Thanks to everyone for all their replies, I understand the concerns but as a few PP said I had to weigh up the risks and ultimately I was being physically sick with tiredness so I had to make a judgement call, I'm not saying it will be forever but for right now it's best for us.

Thanks
