Just that...It's World Bee Day today. Was reading an article about the importance of bees (they're pretty important, it seems Smile):
www.independent.co.uk/environment/world-bee-day-extinct-bees-biodiversity-risks-pandemic-coronavirus-a9522361.html

They're also having a hard time at the moment and suffering from their own viral disease. And of course so many habitats have been lost, including from people paving their small back gardens to create low maintenance outdoor 'living spaces'. AIBU to say that even those of us with tiny gardens/courtyards/balconies (including myself) should try to put out some bee-friendly plants or bee houses to encourage the bees? Just finished planting some lavender in pots.

@Proudboomer

Interesting (freely admitted beginner here Grin)! Whatever they are, they are lovely! We still have some spare pots...

I've gone for as bee-friendly a garden as possible! They LOVE the pink jasmine, and we have fox gloves, roses, lavender, mock orange, wallflower, and the dreaded buddleia. We even had a proper swarm go above us this evening, first time I've ever seen/heard one. Plus it was DH's birthday yesterday so he shares it with world bee day Smile

ITHappened they would make a great addition to a bee friendly garden. They are really easy for beginners and can grow quite large with multiple flower heads so can make a nice statement plant on a patio or corner of the garden.

Northern my local Facebook groups and Nextdoor site are full of beekeepers posting asking if anyone has seen any swarms as they go around and collect them to add to their hives.

How bumble bees trick plants into flowering early www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-52759704

I have gained 2 bumble nests this year. One in my garden and one on my allotment. I was a bit worried at first about them stinging my children in the garden but they seem very harmless and fascinating to watch. They are in a hedgehog box in my garden so are very cosy in there in the left bedding from hogs winter hibernation.
