BBC Springwatch starts next week...

What part of spring are we supposed to be watching, exactly?

It's well and truly finished round here. All the spring flowers have finished weeks ago, the May blossom is waning, the lambs are big and chunky, there are fledgling birds everywhere and the roses are in full flower.

How will they persuade the birdies to socially distance?

Lemonnhoney · 20/05/2020 21:19

Wasn't it supposed to be on after Easter? Why is it on so late?

Punxsutawney · 20/05/2020 21:24

I think it's normally on at this time of year. Ds's birthday is the second week of June and he used to be a big springwatch fan. I'm sure we have watched it in the week of his birthday before. I agree it is a little late for spring though.

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 20/05/2020 21:24

Isn't it always on at this time of year?

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2020 21:24

They always have Springwatch rather late, IMO. I think they're aiming for a time when lots of birds are breeding (even if for some it will be the second clutch).

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 20/05/2020 21:43

It always coincides with May half term, we usually watch it on holiday and met some of the team where they were filming one year.

LIZS · 20/05/2020 21:45

Usual week to start. There is some coverage appearing on iplayer at weekend and fb already.

shookbelves · 20/05/2020 22:04

I know it always this late, but WHY in God's name don't they show the programme in the SPRING?

All there is left to show is a few remaining nesting birds.

Call it NatureWatch, BirdWatch, whatever they like, but it is no longer spring.

Best thread I’ve seen on here in ages!

Thanks for the reminder! I love the little birdies 🕊

pinkhousesarebest · 20/05/2020 22:11

Don’t they usually film in Scotland? MaybeSpring is just arriving there. Anyway, did I not watch Winterwatch about five minutes ago?

shookbelves · 20/05/2020 22:45

I can guarantee that even in Scotland, spring has been well under way for months.

And Winterwatch was on tv in January, so by my reckoning (and since we have 4 seasons in 12 months), Springwatch should have been 3 months later in April. Not the end of May, when it is all but over.
