To think if you lend something to someone...

About 2 years ago, my partner was lent something for a baby by someone at his work (in a school).

The item costs about £20. We didn’t use it, but stored it. Upon his return to work he forgot about it and didn’t return the item, which the lady didn’t request back.

We’ve since moved house approximately two hours away from his work and therefore this lady’s house (he has a new job starting September).

The lady texted him today saying she needed the item back.

My partner responded that he can deliver it back to her in two weeks when he goes to work for the day.

She has requested he order her a new one from amazon as she needs it ASAP. I have said no, partner wants to keep the peace.

Who is being unreasonable?

Tell her even Amazon won't be guaranteed to be there next day and post it. Although it's £12 surely it's worth the hassle to not have to drive for 2 hours?

EnoughAlready2020 · 20/05/2020 22:38

If it's a thermometer you're definitely being unreasonable!Grin

HollowTalk · 20/05/2020 22:43

I think if you borrowed it you should return it. £12 isn't the end of the world.

rabbitwoman · 20/05/2020 22:45

See, lending things and borrowing thibfs just leads to this kind of shenanigans. If it was only a £20 item, why didn't you buy your own in the first place?

Why didn't you return it before now?

Not helpful in the circumstances, I know, but experience over the years has taught me NEVER to lend anyone anything unless you are okay with the possibility of losing it, and never borrow anything.....

Your partner is unreasonable for keeping something for so long without even using it.

Amazon delivers very quickly even currently. Your partner should order her a new one.

HedgeHogFoxBadger · 20/05/2020 23:05

What is the item!?

buckeejit · 20/05/2020 23:10

Is it a thermometer?!

Disquieted1 · 20/05/2020 23:14

I'm guessing some kind of computer cable or charger or extension.

You've had access to it for two years. Buy her a new one graciously.

Mumto1andthetinybun · 20/05/2020 23:19

Is it a baby monitor?

FinallyHere · 20/05/2020 23:25

Is anyone else wondering why you kept whatever it was, even though not using it?

Seems like loaning it comes u der the heading of 'no good deed goes unpunished'

Barryisland · 20/05/2020 23:25

Can you just give her the monetary equivalent and she can buy her own replacement ?

Mammyloveswine · 20/05/2020 23:55

Just came on as I'm
Dying to know what the item is!!
