I was laying down with my 6 week old baby in my arms and I was on my phone looking at jobs as we’re in a stressful situation atm. My phone slipped out of my hands and dropped on my baby’s head! :( it’s an iPhone 11 so it’s heavy. He cried for a second and I soothed him and stopped. I can’t feel a bump or see a mark but I’m worried it was on his soft spot. I’m so scared I’m going to cause him brain damage or he’s not going to wake in the morning. My anxiety is already so bad as it is :(

I dropped an iPhone on my newborn daughter's head. When she was around 6 months old, she crawled off my bed. I was horrified and as a precaution, I took her to the hospital. Of course, she was fine. She's now 7 years old. She's thoughtful, kind and very bright.

Thescrewinthetuna · 19/05/2020 20:26

Everyone has done similar, don’t panic. It’s a phone not an anvil, it’s all good

formerbabe · 19/05/2020 20:28

I'm sure there was a woman on here who did the same thing and proceeded to drop her phone on her own head to try to see how much it would have hurt!

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 19/05/2020 20:28

I may have dropped an iPad directly onto DNephews tiny newborn face Blush. He was fine though. He barely stirred.

I’ve clonked DS’s head off the doorframe and the car door too and he’s a healthy 10yr old now.

Babies are a hell of a lot more resilient than they look (thank god).

Advance notice - they will roll off something. The bed, the sofa etc at least once. It’s happened to 99.9% of parents.

Suzie6789 · 19/05/2020 20:28

I know it’s worrying, but it’s probably the first bump in a long string of bumped heads. If he seems well in himself I wouldn’t be worried.
I once dropped my DS from standing up, down onto the bed, he bounced and I was distraught for hours.

Not the first, not the last.

I was carrying my son into the bedroom. Hit his head on the door frame on the way through. I sobbed way harder than he did. A few weeks later as I was carrying him I stubbed my toe on the table. I yelled in pain and hobbled to the sofa and he giggled his head off at me, I feel like that was his way of repaying me for the doorframe incident.

Tinysarah1985 · 19/05/2020 20:30

My daughter was nearly put through the kitchen ceiling when she was about 6 months old. The ceiling is lower in the kitchen at the in laws and her dad picked her up to put her on his shoulders. She was fine, dad however was a quivering wreck as he thought he had broken her neck

PeppasMuddyPuddles · 19/05/2020 20:30

Try to be kind to yourself OP, it's very unlikely to have done any damage. If he stopped crying pretty much straight away thats a good sign. Keep an eye on him, make sure hes feeding etc and I'm sure he'll be fine.
It's so difficult not to worry. Like pp my dd fell off the bed when she was about 7 months old. I literally took my eyes off her for a second. Rushed her to hospital. She was fine, I cried for a week.
Things will happen, you just need to try not to beat yourself up Flowers

FlapAttack23 · 19/05/2020 20:30

This is a rite of passage we all do !!! You’re not a proper mum til you’ve dropped a phone on your unsuspecting newborn 🙈🙈🙈😅

Grobagsforever · 19/05/2020 20:30

Oh yes did that lots with DD when she was even younger than your DS.

He's definitely, 100 percent fine

SleepingStandingUp · 19/05/2020 20:31

Oh u thought you were going to have dropped the baby off the side of the bed, honestly op it's fine. You'd really need to have thrown it at him to have any risk. Give him lots of cuddles for you s as him

PeppasMuddyPuddles · 19/05/2020 20:32

I'm sure there was a woman on here who did the same thing and proceeded to drop her phone on her own head to try to see how much it would have hurt!

Yeah I'm not gonna lie my DP done that last week when dd banged her head on the sofa. 🙈

FlapAttack23 · 19/05/2020 20:32

@NotExactlyHappyToHelp 😂😂😂oh yes the rolling one too.. straight off the premier inn bed a million metres down to the floor😨😅

UniKitty123 · 19/05/2020 20:33

I have done this soooo many times. I now have a phone case that has a little ring that sticks out the back. I can then slide my finger through so it’s attached to my hand.

Franticbutterfly · 19/05/2020 20:33

I accidentally bashed my DDs head going through a door. She's 12 now, she is annoying, but not brain damaged in any way.

DuckALaurent · 19/05/2020 20:34

Wait until you walk through a doorway carrying them and smack their head into the door frame. Or the classic playful throw in the air not remembering there’s a light fixture above you.

We’ve all been there Flowers

BabyLlamaZen · 19/05/2020 20:35

Yep Blush
It'll make you more careful next time. Just keep an eye on him. Also if it's ever a real concern then just so you know Drs see it all the time.

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/05/2020 20:35

I fell over with DS2 in the sling and landed on top of him.

He's a strapping 26 year old now, doesn't seem to have been stunted by a vast amount of mother crushing him.

EvolvingElle · 19/05/2020 20:37

Wait until you walk through a doorway carrying them and smack their head into the door frame

Or have your 2 year old on your shoulders and forget to duck when going through a low doorway 🤦🏻‍♀️

mathanxiety · 19/05/2020 20:37

My special trick was walloping my babies' heads off the frame of the car door as I took them out of their car seat.

Keep an eye out for vomiting, bruising, and irritability. Most likely your LO is fine.

Hot drinks are far worse.

Nearlyalmost50 · 19/05/2020 20:37

I nearly decapitated mine with a doorframe. He's fine

We nearly did this too, my husband dropped a very heavy chipboard door, which bounced off a step and grazed our 8 month old. If it had fallen on her...we felt sick for about two days afterwards and I feel funny even talking about it now. She's 14 and fine!

VodkaCranberry2 · 19/05/2020 20:38

Thank you everyone, you’ve all made me feel a lot better and part of the parenting club Grin

MeadowHay · 19/05/2020 20:38

I've done most the things mentioned here, multiple times, and my DD is not even 2 yet. Shes fine. Don't worry OP. It goes with the territory

crispsahoy · 19/05/2020 20:39

When I was a baby still in hospital a relative dropped a camera on me! I'm almost 34 so gives you an idea of the size of the camera, I'm fine.
