To send my kids back to school when the cabinet does?

Are any members of the cabinet sending their children back to school on June 1st?

Why ever not?

The schools they go to aren't opening you say?

Why not?

I really dont understand this arguement. No one mentioned any issues when Key Workers kids stayed at school but oh the horror at sending others!
Are Key Wokers kids just cannon fodder?

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/05/2020 21:35

Especially as you said, explicitly...

i will not accept that schools are safe for our children

For our children. You didn’t mention the teachers. So your comparison doesn’t work.

SorrelBlackbeak · 18/05/2020 21:38

@ShandlersWig - search some old threads. Opposing key worker children going to school was definitely a thing.

Remember when John Selwyn Gummer had his daughter eat a beefburger on camera during the BSE crisis? Not sure this approach will be a reliable guide for you OP.

TrickyD · 18/05/2020 22:01

Ok, Drivingdown,
Let’s make it ‘I will not accept that schools are safe for our children or their teachers etc. “
Happy?

How about schools safe for everyone? School has lots of staff to make it tick over...other adults work there too.

Schools need to safe for staff, pupils and their carers.

edwinbear · 18/05/2020 22:12

@flowerycurtain no, I haven’t. I did have a place for both DC under the scheme but I had to have an emergency appendectomy at the end of March so I didn’t take the places up. I was at home recovering and having potentially been exposed whilst in hospital I didn’t think it was the right thing to do.

Once the Y6 is back though I have no qualms taking up a place.

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/05/2020 22:13

Well yeah, your follow up comments would have made more sense had you said that.

Yep, like their keyworker parents, everyone claps but few actually give a toss

cabbageking · 18/05/2020 23:28

There is a review on the 28th to decide whether to go ahead and open on the 1st of June or not.

sst1234 · 18/05/2020 23:37

OP, is someone forcing you to send your kids to school?

flowerycurtain · 19/05/2020 10:48

@edwinbear thanks

Teateaandmoretea · 19/05/2020 11:11

Regardless of what happens to the Cabinet’s children, until the house of Commons is full of MPs sitting close together, I will not accept that schools are safe for our children.

^^this just shows a total and utter lack of any understanding of social distancing. The HOC should stay at home in their constituencies to contain the virus so that our children are safe to go back to school. They can work virtually, children cannot be locked away from their friends forever.
