To wonder how the hell I’m still pregnant?

Last time I saw DP was on March 19th, so earliest I could be is 10W4D.

On 22nd of March I began to spot, and then the next day had absolutely horrendous horrendous cramps and heavy clotty bleeding that left me being sick and bed bound. Then it continued like a normal period until March 31st. Except it clearly wasn’t a normal period and I assumed it must have been a MC. Don’t give it much thought once it ends.

Then on April 27th my period comes as normal. Usual flow, lasts 6 days. I assume everything is back to normal post ‘miscarriage’.

Except for the past week I’ve been feeling incredibly odd. Mid-back pain, indigestion even though I’ve not been eating much, dizziness when standing up. Yesterday I took a spare P test I had lying around just to pass some time, not expecting it to be positive at all. Except it was.

I’m absolutely stunned. How has baby survived both bouts of bleeding, the first of which was way heavier than a normal bleed? I’ve managed to get an appointment for Wednesday but I just can’t comprehend it. Has this happened to anybody else?

I had a complete molar pregnancy. Really extreme preganncy symptoms then very very heavy bleeding. Was sure I'd miscarried but when I was scanned it turned out to a molar pregnancy and I needed a d and c.

I hope it isnt that. On the other hand, with my first I bled twice and all was fine with her and they couldnt see where the bleed came from.

I don't think congratulating the OP on her pregnancy is particularly wise or kind, especially when there has been no scan.

OP I have everything crossed that you get the result you want, but you must get yourself to an EPU ASAP, what you are describing needs investigating.

I hope you get the answers you want on Wednesday, OP.

As pp have said it's possible for a pregnancy to survive bleeding. This could be the original pregnancy or a new one so I think you need to be seen at EPU to establish dates and check it's in the correct place. With DC3 I was having trouble conceiving, every month I would have irregular bleeding therefore when I did fall pregnant I had no idea about dates or if I'd been bleeding so they were more than happy to see me.

Could be ectopic, you need to see a doctor if so. As pp has said, don't want to scare monger, but these can be life threatening if not treated.

I think you need to see a Dr op. You can’t self diagnose with these things.

Without wanting to go in to too much detail when I went through something similar it was much more than bleeding. You know when you have passed something more than a clot or blood out.

Ask to be referred to and early pregnancy unit for a scan, to be on the safe side. My experience was not quite the same - I didn't know I was pregnant and hadn't missed a period, but had a week of horrendous back / shoulder pain with dizziness. Turns out I was 11 weeks pregnant and the pain and dizziness was caused by a burst ectopic pregnancy. Hope everything works out for you.

I had awful bleeding, soaked through pad in well under an hour, went through clothes etc and baby was fine. I have no idea how. That was early on about 5-6 weeks ish. It’s nuts.

I bled in all of my pregnancies, they couldn't identify a cause with the first three and put it down to hormones. With my youngest I had a terrible bleed at ten weeks and was adamant I'd lost the baby. A scan showed a perfectly healthy baby and unfortunately a second empty sac.

There can be lots of reasons for bleeding in pregnancy, best to get checked out if possible

I bled loads every week or so big floods till about 16 weeks and my daughter is 21lonths now , it turned out was a haematoma just outside the sac and away from the baby so she was fine .

Please get checked asap, after my mc I kept testing positive and ended up needing a D&C

Goodness - hopefully it is a very resilient little baby! I wouldn't have the patience to wait until Wednesday.

I had a positive test, scanned which showed one baby and one potential. I then passed a lot of matter Sad. Had a period. Got pregnant again, had baby, except what had happened was I miscarried one baby of two, had another bleed and my baby was born three weeks over what the midwives said was my due date. Sometimes medical staff don't know more than us.

@sinustrain could you have lost a twin?

Before opting for a d and c if suggested then do make sure you have had a scan first. If I'd had the offered d and c after an ectopic then my youngest Dd wouldn't be here.

I’ve had 3 miscarriages, after my first I had a positive pregnancy test for 6 months. Turned out it was retained parts which slowly came away over time. The next 2 miscarriages I had a D&C but still had a positive pregnancy test for 2 months afterwards. Hope you get some answers at the scan.

Yeah happened to me, had really heavy bleeding the week after my period was due, assumed it was a miscarriage. Bled for a month.
When it eased off a bit I decided to treat myself to my favourite pamper things - a hot bath (I like them scalding hot) and gin and tonic. I did this a few times.
Then it turned out I was still pregnant. Am now just about to pop and baby seems fine despite my idiocy (should've taken a pregnancy test before drinking and having hot baths rather than assuming!)
I wouldn't just trust the pregnancy test though. When I went to get scanned they warned me that sometimes your hormones take a while to settle back down so your tests comes up positive even though you've miscarried. Fingers crossed it's a happy ending for you!

Don’t even know what I’m going to say to DP.

It’s all such a mess. Might just got EPU tomorrow, not sure I can wait until Wednesday.

It would be a good idea to get checked sooner rather than later in case it’s ectopic pregnancy similar to the previous poster

Report
Bienentrinkwasser · 18/05/2020 19:10

Definitely give EPU a call tomorrow!

I had really heavy bleeding at 14w. Flooding, clots like huge bits of liver. They called it a threatened miscarriage but no one could explain it. I did have a few fibroids though. DD is 5 now so I hope things work out
