Sofa disassembly companies?

Do they exist? We have a huge sofa and it needs to go in the basement. Does anyone know if any companies in the north west or anywhere that would be willing to travel to come and take apart a sofa and reassemble it downstairs?

It has to go downstairs as I'm moving into the basement to try and keep my family safe from covid 19 as I'm going to work in icu.

The sofa is 82 cm across and the opening is 68cm across..

So aibu to ask you to recommend a company who can help me?

I've never heard of such a thing, but it occurs to me that this may be something that a furniture removal company could do - they might not normally want a small job but presumably they're underemployed at the moment.

Maybe have a look at a trade forum where you post the job that you require and you’ll get local bids.

Perhaps put it on task rabbit or checkatrade and see what response you get.

2 questions.
What size opening did it get through to get it to where it is now?
What make is it?

I ask because we killed ourselves trying to move a DFS sofa, reasoning it had clearly come through the door. Nice dfs man pointed out how the arms were removable! Obvs once you knew!

Or upholstery repair companies?

I had one who repaired my big sofa in situ and he took it apart to do so. They repair hotel etc furniture so are used to big stuff.

It's a lazy boy recliner
And I'm hoping it can be taken apart!

They usually just have hooks that you hook onto each section so no real disassembly required. I'd use a handy man / men rather than a company . Honestly it's something you and another person could do thought if you are able bodied . Google on you tube how they go together and reverse .

There are dozens of YouTube videos showing how to do it!

The back of the seat will just unclip. There is a metal clip to push together on each side of the chair deep down in the back crevice and the back just slides off. Then the bottom/seat bit just needs to be stood on its side and it will go through the doorway. Position in room of choice and slide the back bit back into the clips. It's very easy although the base was very heavy so you will need some help carrying it, especially down stairs I would imagine. Its strength you need rather than skill - or at least that's how it has been for the ones I/family have had. YouTube is your friend for the visual guide!
