To expect them to wear gloves when serving food?

So I'm currently at current my local beauty spot as we live near the sea and thought I'd treat the kids to an ice cream as first time out in weeks. However I noticed inside there were 2 people serving and neither were wearing gloves and both were handling the money then handing out the cones. Dh said I'm being ott but even with out corona that's pretty gross right??

Buy a wrapped lolly, job done!

This is why I won’t go to subway- they wear gloves but use the same ones to dip in all the food, take money etc.

Then have the cheek to reluctantly ask if you want them to change gloves to prepare your veggie sandwich as their hands have been in the tuna. When you say yes please, you’re vegetarian, they will then argue that tuna is vegetarian, it’s just some people think it isn’t an complain when they don’t change gloves..

Despite the fact their tuna gloves have already double dipped in all the salad and other things...

Surely it's not about the gloves, because ultimately if you've just picked your nose, or scratched your arse, if you are wearing the gloves and then not changed them for a new pair, you're no more hygienic than someone without gloves doing the same thing.

Surely a better approach would be one person serving and one person taking money?

pointless wearing gloves, unless you change between customer

RitzSpy · 18/05/2020 09:13

I'd prefer to see them wash their hands frequently. A local wine bar had their staff wear blue plastic gloves whilst serving and I observed very little hand washing lots of taking the gloves off and shoving them in their apron, only to put them back on a few minutes later! The cross contamination was appalling. We send an email to the owner who clearly thought we were mad - but I wouldn't go back in. Gloves encourage poor hand washing - revolting things!

you have put me off ice cream cones,

Badassmama · 18/05/2020 09:32
  1. They should not be handling money without gloves
  2. In food service tbh wearing gloves all the time promotes bad hygiene as you can’t wash your hands- it’s better to not wear gloves and wash after every single different process.
  3. They probably belong to the same household in which case 2 people in there is fine but one should be doing the ice creams and the other should be wearing gloves to handle the cash.

Contactless money would be better though.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/05/2020 11:08

They don't exactly have access to hand washing facilities plus it's unlikely they would pick their nose or scratch their balls with gloves on. Ice cream in tubs or wrapped from now on 😬😬

There's very little evidence that wearing gloves improves food hygiene. For example, if you saw them wearing gloves you'd be happier but they could have worn the same gloves all day. People tend to wash their hands more often than they change their gloves.

They do need to use one hand for money and the other for serving food though, with it without gloves.

Who eats the bottom of the cone?

Surely it's just a vehicle for icecream?

HappyHammy · 18/05/2020 11:52

I bite the end off the cone and suck the ice cream out. Well I used to, not anymore.Confused
