If you walk to a park & ride site, you should be charged less than those using a car

"Foot" passengers are charged £4 return each. Whereas those with a car bearing in mind some cars can actually house 7 people are charged £3.20.

I did just go to the machine and buy a car ticket so did only pay £3.20.

But.....

er, thats daft, and how much is it to park in town/get a normal bus?

TheQueenOfQuotes · 19/09/2007 14:19

that's mad!

TellusMater · 19/09/2007 14:20

Eh?

We get on the bus and pay for our trip into town. No-one asks how we got there...

2shoes · 19/09/2007 14:20
Hmm
Hulababy · 19/09/2007 14:20

That's mad! I would just say I came by car.

daisyandbabybootoo · 19/09/2007 14:23

It does seem a bit daft, but can't think why you would want to use a park and ride if you don't have a car. Isn't there a regular bus service that you can use?

hunkermunker · 19/09/2007 14:23

How much is the car ticket?

Fimbo · 19/09/2007 14:24

I only found out because I mistakenly thought it was £2 return for arriving by foot. But no, its £2 there and £2 back again and if dd was there it would be a £1 each way for her.

Will just go to the machine every time!

Oh and if you arrive by car after 12.30pm its only £1.60.

So if someone hops on saying they have come on foot they will still get charged £4.

Madness

How silly. Ours is a flat rate on the bus regardless of method of getting there.

evenhope · 19/09/2007 14:26

Thought the whole purpose of P&R was to get cars off the road? If the bus is full of non-parking passengers it won't work!

Fimbo · 19/09/2007 14:26

Car ticket is £3.20. Yes the morale of the tale is just buy a car ticket, I just think it is madness thats all.

I don't drive and "normal" bus service is sporadic. The P & R is 20mins walk away which is nothing on a fine day.

OP posts:
Fimbo · 19/09/2007 14:30

Evenhope - yes that is the point. I can't see many people walking to the P & R. Plus I was going when it wasn't rush hour.

I may be cynical but I think the point of a park and ride is to make money, pure and simple. There are no altruistic motives. Car prices are set according to what a car user would reasonably expect to save by not driving into town and parking. Foot passenger prices are probably based on comparable bus fares. Though that's all conjecture of course.
