Sending dc1 back to childminder whilst on mat leave

I have a DC aged 2.5 and a 4mo. I'm currently on mat leave. DH is working from home although a keyworker, it is expected he will return to work in the next four weeks. Childminder will be opening for business on 1st June in line with schools so I have been asked if I will be sending dc1. We have been paying full during this lockdown to maintain his space, he attends three days a week.

He has been coping 'OK' although is constantly questioning why we aren't doing x, y, z in the manner that suggests he thinks he's being punished Sad I am obviously concerned about his mental health as well as the risk of covid. I do feel bad considering I am in mat leave but having him home has obviously meant I have had no 121 time with dc2. We also have an unfinished extension where builders downed tools for the lockdown and are due to return first week of June so it will be rather chaotic.

I am really unsure what to do, whether to delay his return for another month or so, keep him home for the rest of the year... I don't know. It seems wierd sending him there if me and DH are potentially home but at the same time it won't do him much good being here during building works again.

If you have to pay anyway, I’d send him. Maybe for shorter days than usual, but it will do him good to see other people.

You say you are worried about his mental health as well as risk of covid

Mental health - at 2.5 he has no real relationships with other children and you might not believe it but being home with his mum is definitely best for him whatever the circumstances

(what do you want to do on 1 to 1 with your 4 month old, how do you see baby benefitting from it?)

Risk of covid: obviously going to increase sending him to childminder

No brainer in your situation, keep him home
