Aibu to smother DH with my pillow?

Because he will not stop snoring/making annoying noises at night.

Seriously he sleeps with his mouth wide open and it makes a loud clicking noise which sends me absolutely insane. I can't sleep a wink once I can hear it, it is SO ANNOYING.

I can't use the ear plugs I have as they make my ears really sore, any recommendations for decent ones?

I really can't stand it anymore, in spending another night on the bloody sofa.

Is it some sort of new Olympic sport due to the virus? My neighbour’s been going at it like Henry the fuckin’ Hoover since 10.

k1233 · 17/05/2020 05:14

Sounds like if you play the white noise from your phone, he may not sleep, which would certainly solve the problem.

My dad was a snorer and it impacts the whole house. I hate snoring!

Nicknamegoeshere · 18/05/2020 14:13

That when you're pregnant and they listen in to baby, it is super loud for baby and they don't usually like it (hence the kicking!) My midwife showed me today by putting the doppler receiver in a sink of water. My poor bubba!!!

I'm having a home birth with an Independent Midwife (38 weeks now) and will allow mw to listen in, but only when she deems it necessary.

Nicknamegoeshere · 18/05/2020 14:14

Ignore - wrong thread!!! Confused

Tigger85 · 18/05/2020 14:18

My dp does the clicking thing too, drives me insane. He isn't overweight And rarely drinks. He is bannished to the spare room for now.

SouthWestmom · 18/05/2020 15:08

Euclid, how awful I'm sorry. Do you mean the two were related? Dh snores and I'm convinced it's because he isn't healthy but I can't persuade him to seek help.

HyggeTygge · 18/05/2020 15:30

I'm the snorer. I have obstructive sleep apnoea. I went to the GP as DH was worried as i held my breath when i was sleeping. I now have a CPAP machine which, although it takes abit of getting used to makes me feel like I've actually slept!

@TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey can you give a bit more info about this please? My dh does this "holding his breath" thing in his sleep, I find it quiet anxiety-inducing to listen to if I'm awake as it doesn't sound like he's ever going to breathe out! It's been like this for as long as I've known him (20 years probably) but is it something he needs to get looked at? He's slim, fairly healthy, doesn't smoke.

OhTheGeese · 18/05/2020 16:12

@catmagnett what headphone headband do you have? I have a snorer husband

SerenDippitty · 18/05/2020 16:20

My DH is another spare room user. I apparently make annoying clicky noises and he snores like an express train complete with whistle so it suits both of us.

bloodywhitecat · 18/05/2020 16:28

I wonder if he's got a polyp blocking his nostril, the treatment is simple and relatively painless if he has.

nowayhose · 18/05/2020 16:30

Nah, you are not being unreasonable at all. Grin

Every court in the land would agree that you would be well within your rights to sign your DP up for euthanasia Grin

Or sew ping pong balls into his PJ tops. Grin

Or give him a swift kick that sends him flying from the bed and pretend you're still sleeping. Grin

YouJustDoYou · 18/05/2020 16:30

Mine does this, I hear him even through earplugs. I end up escaping to the spare room 99 nights out of 100.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 18/05/2020 16:41

My ex was champion snorer.
We had separate rooms at opposite ends of the house
He still used to wake me and ds....
We had a snore app on an old iphone.
Mine used to pick up his noise.
I used it when he was on nights.
1-2 dB max
Was up in the 80s for him.
But he was an overweight drinker.
I found it cleared up when he moved 100 miles away to be with the OW

Op was here socially distancing with me that night and has always wanted a new patio with plants.

antipodalpizza · 18/05/2020 16:42

It depends if you like the pillow enough not to want to have to replace it.

Herpesfreesince03 · 18/05/2020 16:43

Does he sleep on his back op? My oh does this when he’s on his back. I just turn him on his side

Bigsighall · 18/05/2020 16:44

They sell white noise machines. I find them good (or a fan on the high setting works too)

gamerchick · 18/05/2020 16:47

The main reason I got my own bedroom. I don't believe that sleeping with another adult benefits anybody in the main.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 18/05/2020 16:55

I too share a bed with an asthmatic warthog. Like a poster above, at time I turn top to tail at times. I will also play something on my tablet, not through headphones as can't bear the earbud type. Dh can sleep through it. You said yours will moan he cannot sleep if you listen to something? Tough, if he sorts his snoring out, you won't need to listen to anything 😁. Or he can go to the sofa/spare room if it is keeping him awake!

HeyDuggeewhatchadoin · 18/05/2020 17:28

I use these. My DH needs nasal surgery and is on the verge of needing a CPAP machine. I still sleep.

CatMagnett · 18/05/2020 19:26

@OhTheGeese

Nothing fancy, just these from Amazon. They've made a real difference and I no longer have to decamp to the spare room at 2am.

SouthWestmom · 19/05/2020 09:24

I have a twitch in one eye which I'm sure is sleep deprivation. I have a low grade headache and wake up feeling sick through tiredness.

What pisses me off is the utter selfishness of dh knowing I never sleep properly and not once offering to sleep downstairs. Oh no, he did and then came up at about 2 am pathetically saying am I ok to sleep up here.

I don't think it was this bad before because he stayed away for work regularly.

YouJustDoYou · 19/05/2020 22:41

Mine snores, and also likes to rub his motherfucking hard on against me, waking me up for the 20th time of the night, at 5 fucking am. I love it when he works away - I can get such a good night's sleep away from his dying bear snoring and horrible 5am dry humps.

IFeelTheNeedTheNeedForSleep · 19/05/2020 22:50

My husbands snoring is ridiculous - to the extent we've had separate bedrooms for about 2 years. Went on holiday last year and I was seriously ready to crack up! Fast forward a year and we have a baby who is going to need his own bedroom fairly soon so I'm absolutely dreading sharing a room - even with earplugs I can hear him in the other room so imagine what it's like in the same room 🙄
Overweight, drinks and smokes and won't do anything about it. Attitude seems to be that he's asleep so it doesn't bother him 🤷🏼‍♀️

SunflowerSeedsForever · 19/05/2020 22:52

Make sure you swap them over with pillows from another room before the police arrive.

As he dies his breath into the pillow will show on forensic examination and they will be able to prove murder.

lockdowngandt · 20/05/2020 07:50

Have you tried having a fan in the room until he potentially hauls his backside to the GP @SHUTUPPLEASEEE ?

We have one of those taller fans (went for a nice looking silver one so it fits in with the room and isn't an eyesore) used to use it only in the summer but when I was pregnant with DC2 I snored quite badly and DH brought it out from storage for white noise so he could sleep and it worked really well.

We liked the white noise so much we now use it all year round Grin
