AIBU to expect people to stay away from our AONB?

I live in the North East, a village within an area of outstanding natural beauty. AIBU to want people to stay away for the time being?

People need exercise for sure, totally agree with that. But the swarms of people descending on us right now is an absolute joke. As a village we have (mostly) followed all government guidance, particularly as we have a lot of elderly residents who are at hig risk. Since the rules have been slightly relaxed, our village feels overrun. No social distancing measures by these visitors either. A friend even caught a bloke weeing behind the public toilets as they're currently locked. What is wrong with people?

Anyway, what are your thoughts?

OP posts:
understandmenow · 17/05/2020 14:32

I'm glad you realise you don't make any of the "rules", you don't own any land outside your home.

LST · 17/05/2020 14:32

YABU as long as people are following the rules. We're going out in our motorhome for day trips. Have our own loo and brewing facilities. We don't travel far. Wouldn't drive an hour or anything like that.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/05/2020 14:32

Though to be fair, your "I'll do what I like" response to a post about a fairly gruesome murder does lack a certain amount nor humanity, self awareness, etc

understandmenow · 17/05/2020 14:40

Oh get over yourself @CuriousaboutSamphire , stop being so fucking drama this post wasn't about the murder until you hi jacked it!

Go make your own post, because someone travelled to dispose of a body does not make the rest of us responsible!

And you're pretty awful maki g the murder all about how you feel? What about the victim and their family? No mention of them... it's me me me me me!

MuddlingMackem · 17/05/2020 14:40

For all the posters getting arsey about the OP describing the area as 'ours' you would get really pissed off in a general conversation with a north easterner should they make reference to 'my work' or 'my school' or 'my town' or 'my' anything. It's local vernacular shorthand for 'the place where I work', 'where I go to school'. 'where I live', so you're really showing up your narrowmindness picking away at her turn of phase.

And no, in my opinion she is NBU. If the visitors were being respectful, observing social distancing and going elsewhere if they arrived to see the place was too busy then she would probably not be complaining, as it wouldn't be an issue. But they're not, so it is.

okiedokieme · 17/05/2020 14:41

It's not yours. People need to park with consideration and certainly weeing behind the loos is wrong but we all jointly own streets, not the residents and public footpaths are for all.

understandmenow · 17/05/2020 14:58

@MuddlingMackem they're people and particularly on MN, who truly believe that they own their local area, you must've seen the "they've parked outside my house" threads... you don't own the road!

IWantT0BreakFree · 17/05/2020 15:01

That's not a North Eastern thing. That's pretty common all over the UK. And as long as those people weren't trying to dictate who else was entitled to use those spaces that don't actually belong to them after all, then I doubt anyone who is objecting to the OP would have an issue since it's completely different without that additional context that you omitted.

ferretface · 17/05/2020 15:11

Kent Downs AONB here, it's busier than usual but plenty of beautiful countryside to enjoy without being on top of each other, as long as people are mindful of social distancing and the countryside code I have zero issues with people driving here to enjoy it. The council has made a lot of the woodland carparks near us 24/7 which is a sensible move to spread people out a bit.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/05/2020 15:13

@understand... Yes miss, leaving this instant. But you are wrong, you just didn't read all I typed.

understandmenow · 17/05/2020 15:16

"Sigh" I did @CuriousaboutSamphire, it was all
full of "not on my doorstep", "with city folk come dead bodies".

This thread was about the spread of CV, not about a murder!

Bringing the murder into this is just derailing and has nothing to do with this thread.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/05/2020 15:25

Are you always that uptight, controlling and liable to miss out things when trying to make a point?

Ah well. Never mind...

Atalune · 17/05/2020 15:26

I drove an hour to the Dorset coast and had the most spectacular 7mile walk through woods to the coast and back. I saw 12 people total. We all gave each other tons of space. The beach is a hideeb gem which I knew about already. I used my OS map and took my own snacks. It was restorative to be by the coast. I cried when I paddled.

So I didn’t bother the locals, I didn’t try and dump a dead body and was respectful. 🤷🏻‍♀️

LindainLockdown · 17/05/2020 15:28

Was going to vote YANBU, but your possessive tone is annoying so YABU.

understandmenow · 17/05/2020 15:34

Genius after telling city folk not to come to your area! #iiownmyarea!!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/05/2020 15:42

( you're still making it up. I didn't say that...)

That's not a North Eastern thing. That's pretty common all over the UK.

Well, even less excuse to get arsey about it.

And as long as those people weren't trying to dictate who else was entitled to use those spaces that don't actually belong to them after all, then I doubt anyone who is objecting to the OP would have an issue since it's completely different without that additional context that you omitted.

I didn't omit additional context, you just chose to only quote part of my post. And I did say that I thought the OP was justified in being annoyed as people are swarming over that area and not observing social distancing.

DuchessSilver · 17/05/2020 15:58

Us city folk will stay away from your AONB if you promise to stay away from our hospitals.

understandmenow · 17/05/2020 16:04

2 city folk came to dispose of a body in our AONB this week. You can all fuck off, as far as I am concerned.

So @CuriousaboutSamphire you didn't say all? What did you say?

IWantT0BreakFree · 17/05/2020 16:06

@MuddlingMackem I think you must be missing the point, otherwise your comments make no sense. Nobody is annoyed by the very common phrasing "my area" used to describe the locality in which they live. People are annoyed by the OP's assertion that she has more right to use that open space than others. That context (which yes, you omitted and was not mentioned in any part of your comment that I didn't quote) completely changes the meaning. It's really not difficult at all.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/05/2020 16:10

Read it again. Did I tell anyone to do/not to do anything?

Or did I express an opinion based on recent events? as far as I am concerned really isn't a command!

understandmenow · 17/05/2020 16:16

Read it again. Did I tell anyone to do/not to do anything?

No telling us all to fuck is fucking worse though!

Fuck off is pretty rude compared to a please don't come?

Anyway as I've said it's not up to you, so there you go! Suck it up! Because two rands tried to dump a body, you don't tell everyone else to fuck as a previous poster said you sound thick.

GreytExpectations · 17/05/2020 16:19

Read it again. Did I tell anyone to do/not to do anything?

So what part of telling us to all fuck off does not mean for us to not come to your precious countryside? Seems pretty rude to me

Rhubardandcustard · 17/05/2020 16:25

YABU that it’s not yours. Gov rules state we can travel so people aren’t breaking any rules as long as they stick to SD when they are there.

Your bit of AONB is same country over, lots places busy. So your aren’t the only ones.

YANBU in wanting to keep the spread of the virus down and each to stay to their own area.

GreytExpectations · 17/05/2020 16:26

Wow @CuriousaboutSamphire just keeps digging that hole making herself sound even more thick than she already did Grin
