Dog walkers

I’ve noticed that since the places we can visit are restricted at the moment due to virus, just how many dog walkers there are.

I’m finding it impossible to take kids out without seeing dog off it’s lead. I really don’t like dogs much.

I’m finding that dog owners round here are selfish. Taking up the whole of the path so I need to run in the road, off lead when kids are walking, taking over the local green space.

AIBU to think that during lockdown some better rules should have been implemented. Eg dog free hours for exercise. We usually go to dog free places for our fun. Eg kids parks, cafes, national trust. Now I’m being forced to mix with dogs and it’s annoying me.

Yesterday - 6pm so quite late - two separate incidents - both girls aged about 5, each with one adult - my gorgeous to look at (albeit currently way too hairy) middle-aged orange roan cocker spaniel was seriously hassled by both girls, running after her and waving their arms about. Fortunately she could outrun them both, but one of the mums just sat there on her phone.

If the dog had been a couple of years younger she would have turned round and barked her head off at them. Some parents are so clueless - and then they wonder why their children are frightened of dogs.

I run 35 miles a week with my dog (on a lead).

She STILL needs off lead time.

You simply can't give dog free running when it's on a lead. And long lines are no good if there are things to get tangled around...

You can not compare children with dogs

I think you'll find I far prefer my welsh springer to my 14 year old because the springer hasn't ever muttered "for fucks sake Mother" under her breath when asked to pick up her pants off her bedroom floor.

One can ALWAYS compare children with dogs, mostly unfavourably because the majority of dogs are far better behaved.

You’d best take a chill pill and stay in this afternoon OP. You don’t want to risk your DC witnessing normal dog behaviour, as they trot past you with their slobbery tongues hanging out, looking out for a squirrel to chase.

Put a Disney DVD on, perhaps? Though I wouldn’t recommend ‘The Lion King’ for you. Far too many distressing scenes of a lion killing a lion, salivating hyenas and Lion Cubs rolling around, fighting. Those cats are fucking brutal!

Have a glass of wine 🍷 and play Mary Poppins instead.... fast forward past Andrew barking. Who would have thought Disney would include something as horrific as a dog barking eh?

So you usually go to dog free places and now you’re moaning about dogs being exercised where they’ve probably done so for years.
I’ve always exercised my dogs where there are rarely children and never had them off lead if I saw other dogs, children or adults.
However, lots of additional people, including children, are now walking where I’ve exercised my dogs for 14 years. I accept this but don’t always put my dog on her lead because she will walk very close to me and I’m tired of lead on, lead off etc etc. One dog is an old fella and stays on the lead all the time now.

I have a 5 year old (reception year at school) and his behaviour is so bad at the moment. Particularly at bed.

-hitting himself in face when he’s being told off
-generally not listening
-making stupid and dangerous choices eg jumping off back of sofa
-refusing to try food
-lost all motivation in learning
-smashing up Lego sets and throwing toys at us
-refusing to sleep
-really angry but flips from being lovely and happy to being filled with rage
-stamping foot shouting No! When he doesn’t get his way

And yet your child is perfect according to your previous post Op.

At least he isn’t shitting in the park though eh?

Umm I have children and dogs and all our usual peaceful dog walks now have lockdown families walking them. Its disrupted my dogs usual routine and I'm forever putting them on lead in places they would usually be off lead. Can you please stick to the paths in town in future so you leave the green spaces for my dogs to run in? Thanks.
Seriously, you need to think who usually uses those green spaces and are now sharing them with way too many people. The feeling is mutual. However, I tolerate sharing our dog walks, with irritation, but everyone has a right to be there, not just me, not just you.

"Last week she tried to bite my face off and chased a cat!"

There are plenty of children not afraid to use their teeth and many of them would probably chase a cat given the opportunity so perhaps not the best analogy there OP.

Wow! My goodness what a bitchy post above. When did people start looking back at other people’s posts? My son is finding lockdown difficult. He is missing school. He’s stuck in all day. Read the full thread. You will see he isn’t alone.

I’m absolutely gobsmacked that people have tine to look back at previous posts? Maybe you need to go walk your dog or so something else to keep you busy! Haha

Haha and I don’t think my kids are perfectly behaved. They could certainly do with going back to school and getting some normality. Still shocked that your life must be that dull, that you looked me up!

Also previous stalker weirdo poster that looked up my history... how do you know my son doesn’t have learning disabilities or behavioural issues? Do you enjoy picking on 5 year old kids or do you just do that at weekends?!

I look at goady people’s history to see if they have form for it. Or if they are new or have name changed. It takes 20 seconds.

My life isn’t dull thanks. But you may be. And predictable.

I’m surprised you have time to be gobsmacked too. It’s full time work being entitled and outraged.

HTH. haha Hmm

I don't have a dog but sometimes admire them from afar, might pat a friend's dog to be sociable. So no particular problems with them. But I have a question, if having recall means you call your dog and it goes back to you, how do you know this always works? I ask because a dog that was off the lead on a little common near my house jumped up at me and smeared its filthy feet all over me so I now have a dirty coat that needs cleaning. Its owner called it and then said it had been cooped up recently and was usually OK. She wsn't at all bothered about the state of my (newly cleaned) coat. Spirit of tolerence etc., I smiled through my gritted teeth and said no problem. She obviously thought she or her pet had recall but she was wrong, so how do dog owners know their dogs will come back if they call them? Not goading, just want to know.

Yes of course dogs should be on a lead near children and other dogs and horses. People who jog past dogs are inciting chase behaviour abd people who jog past horses are inciting flight behaviour. Ditto cyclists. If each group just stopped for a moment to accomodate each other. think about what your own behaviour is doing and make safe space for each person we pass (at a walk) I can never understand joggers who cant walk for a minute or two.

Oh and away with your weirdo stalker insults please.

You were insinuating your children were better behaved than dogs. You said your son isn’t.

No mention of any needs. Just difficulty in lockdown. Like most.

And picking on a 5 year old - no. Just you. For being goady.

You were the one who was posting your son’s ‘bad behaviour’ details on a public form. Not me. Poor wee soul.

Runners also go into the road - I definitely have to do it more now as I am much more mindful of keeping a distance between walkers, dog walkers etc, but it really is the usual etiquette to run in the road. I understand anxieties around this ( I feel guilty for running), but everyone does have a right to be outside...
