To be disappointed with self employed income protection scheme.

So finally today I get to claim my self employed income support.
I ran a small business as a hobby really so only had small profits.
Since than I have taken on 3 jobs which sometimes are treated as self employment and sometimes not. Many probably don't bother registering as self employed as most are under 1000 trading allowance. Most of these jobs commenced in 2019 so not counted.
So today I worked out how much I would have earned just on these new contracts and my payment is only 40% of the income.
So I guess I am annoyed with the companies I deal with as a little more effort on their part would make me and the rest of team paye and therefore would have received proper assistance.
I am also fed up of prople banging on about the generous self employed scheme as for many it is not.
Not only did we have to wait months for support, the support is often not fair and the scheme has not been extended like the paye scheme.

My DH is Self employed and has kept working but very sporadically...he has had no new orders since mid march so working on existing orders (which probably won't be paid for until at least June)

I'm self employed and have kept working. But I have done 5 jobs since lockdown, I'd normally do 15+ jobs a week. So yes, I have claimed SEISS, it was easy to do.

I have also spent time discussing the issue with others who chose to put all profits back into the business and not draw a salary who are now angry they cannot claim much, if anything. How am I supposed to pay my bills? one cried.

The same way you have been for the last 4 years? That didn't go down well, but I don't know what she expects! And yes, she has already claimed the business bounce back loan and a premises grant.

I am still working I sell antiques and collectables online so I had some stock but as soon as Government shut auctions ( probably where most stock comes from as I don't do house clearances) I now have no new stock but could still sell what I had so my business has been affected it doesn;t have to close but because I have nothing to sell now buisnesses is down 70%
however if I were a face mask seller ( genuine one) then I could not claim as I would be making more profit than ever and so it would be fraud to claim it was adversely affected
being honest I do not think most people expected a Tory government to offer to pay anything like 80% of peoples earnings for months

Just realised that before lockdown in March I earned double my total grant.
I was extremely lucky to have had extra work.

The letter sent to shielding people makes it clear that others in the household don't have to shield, they just to carry a strict cleaning routine when coming home.

I am asthmatic though so I also have to be careful myself and if I get ill who will care for everybody else?
It is a difficult situation.

Husband is in the wedding industry (so obviously very much not able to work aside from admin with postponements) his peak earning are March-October to carry us through winter. We’re thankful for the grant to take the pressure off (6 years of hard graft that will hopefully restart again in 2021) so we’re just focussed on surviving this year. I’m a student nurse so I’m working all hours I can on the frontline whilst pregnant and still can. He’s applied for all jobs going, fingers crossed a temporary meat packing job so we have enough to get through the winter. He’d earn in a month there from one film but money is money.
I do however hate the whole I know someone using it for holidays or they pay no tax that is not the norm. I’d say the government are protecting the insurance companies with the SE scheme. But that’s for another thread!
